wrote this in the week during when my mom was dying, recorded it the next year. The jesus imagery is a result of witnessing her struggles with physical pain and faith. This is still one of my favorite things I have ever written, because of its sick honesty (never claimed to be sane). I miss my mom a lot. I don't know if she would like the words, but she might like parts of the music. especially the flutes and vocal harmonies Smile

Heh... make your demons beautiful... and then they can be saved...

Saved or safe?

Wow this is a great song man! Concise, bitter, practically noble in its blackness. Is that you singing? Nice counterpoint too... somehow you combined all these elements without sounding like a smarty pants. Wink

Heh... looking for a prop smiley and only found this. Things...

it's a nice piece and it's interesting that the motivation for writing it was not musical. It wasn't an exercise on a particular style, I guess it blossomed from your painful feelings without much thinking about them. Creative people are fortunate because can channel their feelings through their art and the results are usually relieving (and sometimes beautiful too). Something similar happened to me a few years back. No one was dying but I felt in very bad shape and writing this song helped me. I guess writing "things change for the worse" helped coming to terms with your pain. Good job!

it's "slain". It's an old confucian proverb. It is me singing. I'm really happy with the genre mixing on this one (bossa nova/baroque/electronic). thanks a lot.

listening to your piece right now, seraph. amazing. it sounds like a sad scene in a Wes Anderson movie Smile, like something which is sad and sincere without giving up its complexity. you're right about the relief thing- i'd listen to my song over and over. i was such a confused mass of feelings during the year after my mom died, and producing this little song to be so unique really helped.

This some is a gem. At one point you edit in about a half dozen electronic sequencer notes. That's terriffic. The fact that it was a one time thing is brilliant.

There are a lot of contrasts. Light hearted and very dark, or is it dark hearted and light. Very simple and virtuoso; or is that virtuosotic?

Bravo... thumb up well done

thanks lots. i think it probably is dark-hearted and light. i was reading lots of war history at the time, too (WWII, ancient Iraq, Chomsky, Said, and about three hours of C-span a day). I was in a pretty bad place, addicted to pain-killers, very numb. maybe i should call it "i went to hell and back and all i got was this stupid song?"

one of the things which was hardest for me to come to terms with was dealing with my own grief. My mom's suffering was fairly bad and vocal, so it far overshadowed the families'. and then, all of a sudden, hers was over, and mine was just rearing its head.

thanks for listening to the tune. i have to get back to critiquing things here. Very Happy

for those not native english speakers, like myself, I suggest the following article about Online Lingo where you can find explanations like:

IMHO - In My Humble Opinion

LMAO - acronym for Laughing My Ass Off. Scientific research has not yet proven whether users typing a LMAO are actually emitting any sounds from their mouth.

LOL - acronym for Laughing Out Loud, a reaction to something humorous. Not as strong a reaction as ROFL or LMAO.

ROFL - acronym for Rolling On Floor Laughing

etc. Very Happy
