Envelope follower? Subject description: Any recommendations on A6-compatible envelope follower? |
|
|
Hi... I was recently thinking about running some audio signals (output of an electric violin) thru the A6 for filtering and modulation. If an envelope follower were available, the amplitude of the violin signal could act as a modulation source -- play louder, and the filter resonance increases, for example.
I was a little disappointed to find that the A6 doesn't have a built-in envelope follower for external audio sources (or does it and I just missed it in the manual?), so...
Has anyone used an external envelope follower with the A6? Presumably, you could plug the output of the envelope follower into a CV input on the A6, and then run the audio into the audio in, and use the CV from the envelope follower as a modulation source.
Any thoughts on a relatively inexpensive envelope follower that works well with the A6? Or do I need to build my own?
Thanks,

i've recently bought a doepfer ext trig/env.follower. needs 12volt, reasonable cheap ( 60€) and oke quality.
however the ext in of the a6 could be better : distorts and noisy ( if the opamps of the inputs just were the same quality as the output ones...) |

Sunny,
Thanks for the tip on the Doepfer module. I wouldn't have guessed that would be so inexpensive; most synth modules are a fair bit more expensive than that. I guess an envelope follower has a bit less circuitry.
I haven't yet tried running any audio thru the A6 -- sorry to hear the sound quality may not be so good. I'll have to see for myself.
I'm hoping to get some time with my A6 this weekend. I've been working long days for some time now, plus weekends. Too much time to think up things to try in the studio, but not enough time to try them!
