Hey, I'm building my own performance environment in Max/MSP, and I'm currently having trouble using effects.

Basically I'd like to use MSP effects like overdrive~ and cascade~ with a MIDI sequencer that I've built. I can't figure out how I can get the midi signals to work withthe MSP objects.

Does anyone know how to do this? Or even if it's possible?

Thanks in advance.

First off, this message should probably be in the Max forum:
Forum index » Instruments and Equipment » MAX/MSP - PD

Second, what do you want your MIDI signals to control. It's pretty easy to use a MIDI controller to control overdrive amount or eq or other things like that. What specifically do you want to do?

Ah ok sorry about that.

Ok, I should perhaps rephrase. I want the effects to be added to the midi sound- i.e. I have 3 multisliders giving the pitch, velocity and duration linked to a tempo object and a counter, thereby giving a basic sequencer. I would like the effects to be added to the final sound made my this sequencer.

So what is actually making the sound? The obvious possibilities include an external synthesizer, the operating system's DLS synthesizer, a VST, or generated with MSP?

Unless you have some way to bring that audio back into Max, there's not much you can do. There is at least a reverb message to the DLS synth, that is documented in the Messages to Max chapter of the Max Topics manual.

Depending on your platform, there are a few ways to approach looping the DLS synth audio back into Max.
