While I'm at it, I note that the original Soundart Chameleon forum is gone. It was a place of much good information that is now sadly gone. I therefore encourage the use of EM's forums (e.g. Developers Corner) for any future Chameleon related discussion.

If anyone still has it I guess we could host it or something ... Eddy are you out there reading this?

We are absolutely willing to host a Soundart Chameleon forum as well as support files, archived websites and stuff like that.

I've e-mailed the good host of the Chameleon pages regarding the issue of the old Chami forum. I'll let you know how it goes. Perhaps he is a member here? Paul!?

Hi anigbrowl - nice offer!

As you may know, the original Chameleon web pages and all downloadable resources are kept at http://www.chameleon.synth.net/. The missing bit is the old forum. If you have that archived, it would be great, not far short of a miracle Very Happy

(Just saw Blue Hells posting)
Perhaps we should see what the proprietor of synth.net has to say before we action anything.

Edit: Speaking of "original" Chameleon pages, here's what a time machine can do.

If you still have a Chameleon for sale, could you PM me please, I'd like a second. (I sold two of my three a while back and I miss them).

ok, the forum, it's back up, but read only ;-
http://www.chameleon.synth.net/forum/

The reason I suspended it was we had about 1 genuine post every 6 months and about 100 spams a week.

I ported the old forum to phpbb2, so *all* the messages from day 1 of the forum back in 2002 are up there.

If electro-music.com want to host these forums, I'd be more than happy for this, and I'll happily provide a back of the database. (if the Forum admin could contact me via PM and we'll sort out mail addresses/how/when/etc).

On another note, I loved the Chameleon and championed it at every possible opportunity, but times have moved on. I'm now working with a team of three others to build a new, updated, version.

It will have, a choice of CPU (currently Coldfire 5253 or Arm i.mx31) and a choice of DSP (currently 56720 or 56721). These will be on 'daughter boards' allowing people to upgrade and hopefully retain some degree of future proofing and allowing other CPUs/DSPs t be hosted.

We're also planning on 8 audio ins, and 8 audio outs, two of which will be digital (most likely SPDIF with choice of optical or copper).

We're going to be using uClinux for the CPU side, and we're planning on having ethernet, SDcard, USB OTG and hopefully a colour VGA touch screen (though it may end up being QVGA).

Everything we do will be opensource and free, that includes all the code, modifications to the OS and schematics.

And finally, we're aiming for a price point of around $700 (for the coldfire + 56720 version), though we're hoing it'll be less.

Currently we're still putting together the foundations (uClinux, with various modules loading, building prototype panels, etc) but I'd like to have a prototype ready by this time next year and some beta units by the end of 2009.

The working title for it is 'QiX' (yeah, i'm an 80's child obsessed with computer games) and if anyone has any suggestions or comments
For information, forum, pictures and blog - http://www.QiX.synth.net.

Hi Paul,

Thanks for this, very useful for me as I have just started coding the Chameleon.

Also your new development sounds very interesting indeed.

Cheers

Andy,

no problem at all, I'm happy to see a resurgance in Chameleon development.

If you need a hand, drop me a PM I'll do what I can to help, though I'm no DSP expert.

Hello,

Just wanted to add my name to this growing list of Chameleon owners. I bought one of Paul's in fact. (Sorry you're missing it - but it's in a good home - I promise).

I'm a C programmer but don't have much DSP experience. I started to get my head into the Chameleon last year sometime, but due to work pressures I've had to leave off it for quite a while. Hope to have something to show for my efforts in the not too distant future though.

Paul - (a) thanks for putting the forum back up, (b) Qix looks great, I'll certainly be interested in one when they're done (I may even get round to writing some software for it...).

Tris.

Paul and Tristan,

welcome to electro-music.com!

Great news about the old forum.

Qix sounds really exciting. Feel free to make announcements here at EM when it's time.

That´s great! It is a very nice source.

So.. well.. then I guess we might as well open a tiny subforum for the Soundart Chameleon here? Jan? The old forum is closed.. I certainly understand the spamming problem.. We are very aware of this problem Rolling Eyes Shocked Laughing

All the original messages are up there.
Along with the code (for those that are open source) and demos, patches and so on.

If you find something missing and have it, drop me a PM and I'll get it up there for all.

I just created the Chameleon forum and made a split off bit of the thread leading to this the first one here.
