I suspect the USA market isn't in for the G2, although I fear there is no production in Sweden at the moment. It will be available in Europe for a while...

Hmm...
The Dutch distributor still offers the G2, where the stores don't advertise it no more...

Maybe there will be a new G3 in the near future? Clavia has been very quiet in the synth department since the Wave. _________________ Cheers,

I hope so. It'll be a very sad day for me if these machines become a whistful memory. _________________ Grant |

To me it's not a problem if Clavia discontinues the G2. It's already a wonderful machine far away from the competition.
Add a cheap second hand eePC to run the editor and you'll have a complete autonomous dream machine for years to come...
Now imagine a modded G2 with an inclined front panel and a tactile eepc screen at the right side.... yum!! _________________ Cheers,

There's currently a Clavia sale at feedback.nl: http://www.feedback.nl/?id=104 You can now buy the Nord Stage Compacy/76/88, Electro 61/73 and G2 for discount prices. G2 only costs 999 euro. If you want one, it looks like you have to buy it now. |

Feedback also throws in the last NL3...
I know the Stage is due to a newer version, although only concerning the memory...
Looks like a complete sell out? Anyway, Feedback is one of the most important distributor/dealer of Nord synths. Maybe in need of more space in their warehouse? Maybe being before the depression?

Couldn't agree more. As mentioned on another thread, I have a lot of gear that will fit the vintage category at some point, and the fact that they are obsolete doesn't stop them from sounding good. If we all stopped considering gear out of production then you would be able to pick up minimoogs for next to nothing!
I will never replace my G2 unless Clavia make a G3 or something like. Now, a G2 combined with a Wave woudl give me a serious G.A.S attack! _________________ Regards

But there are other connotations from the discontinuation of the G2.
I.e. I believe the G2 was announced before or soon after the discontinuation of the NM1...
What happens when your machine finally dies or get's stolen etc?
Now, I'd love there to be a new version that additionally works much the same as the DSP/Plugin systems available for effects, maybe with an "easy" interface for non-technically minded people, and the advanced editor for deep-editing, but things look so quiet, I wonder if the machine/concept is being consigned to the dustbin - I just don't see how that's a good thing. _________________ Grant |

If my gear got stolen then I'd have to replace it, and that's what the second hand market is for!
If my G2 was filched and there was no G3, then I would go looking for a second hand G2. _________________ Regards

Well, I didn't mention used stuff because it's not the most reliable source.
Esp. for a smallish stock of synths which're all DSP/PCB design (ie. not "easily" fixable/maintainable like the old analogues).
In an emergency, there's no guarantee one will be able to procure one - or one that works perfectly... _________________ Grant |

I think that the larger risk is will you be able to keep a computer running that is compatible with the editor? _________________ Chris Muir

You can always use an old computer or preferably an old laptop computer. It doesn't need much cpu to run.
Or you can buy one of these:

Sure, but can you keep it running for 35 years like the poster a few above mentioned?
Heck, even running something as old as Win98 on a 2008 computer can be a challenge. _________________ Chris Muir

It should last very long if you use it only for that purpose.
Get an old Laptop or an eepc, install Windows XP, install the editor, and keep it this way like it was designed to work for that purpose. Is that simple! _________________ Cheers,

What keyboard product made after 2000 will last 35 years? Can't think of many outside of the modular analog world. Most are made with pressboard on the bottom, cheap plastic, etc. _________________ Current and recent work on Soundcloud
