I hate it! The evil bastards removed the FireWire port.
And that means that we also won´t be able to do the FireWire target mode thingie when doing disk directory repairs.
EVIL!
The new Macbook is a totally evil product!

Target mode, as far as I know, is supported on Intel Macs using the USB ports. I think FireWire is losing the format war. _________________ Garret: It's so retro.

Wow no FireWire, that is really strange.
That is going to stop quite a few people getting one, hows my FireFace gonna work with that?

Well at least the pros have got them!
Not Cheap Either, The 17" with 7.2K disk and applecare comes out at £2,263.00.
A standard 8 core Mac Pro is £1,948.00 with applecare, not so easy to carry around though. |

on my MacBook Pro I have one FireWire 400, one FireWire 800 and 2 USB 2.0 ports. There are less ports on the new ones
Probably cutting cost, although at that price their margins must be huge! _________________ homepage - blog - forum - youtube

While Apple is a venerable laptop maker, these new Macbooks show all the signs of a first-generation product, or at least a transitional generation - phasing out Firewire, new aluminum+glass construction replacing plastic, LED-backlit screen (no matte option), Nvidia NFORCE chipset, etc.
Intel's USB 3.0 host controller standard went gold last August, which means USB 3.0 could appear on Macbooks as early as next year. USB 3.0 evangelists claim a Firewire-busting speed of 4.8 Gbits/s, but questions remain about legacy USB support and how long a 3.0 connection can sustain a high transfer rate (which is where Firewire traditionally dominated USB).
