Well my new rack furniture has arrived in the week and today is the day I rip everything apart and set it all up again, hopefully removing the 100 yards of wires under my desk and sprawling across the floor.

It isn't going to be fun so I have a crate of beer cooled for calming measures.

Photos to follow....

Sounds almost as tough as my day of grading undergrad computer programs. head banging monitor

Salmon, rice, veggies and Pinot Grigio now, though, and orienteering in the autumn woods tomorrow!

Good luck with those cables. I use mine as a futon. sleeping

Bleeding and aching but I have managed to connect it all up, get rid of hum, digital clicks and strange noises.

Not a great photo but here it is.

Neat and tidy - a job well done! Now you just have to keep from buying something new that will disturb the order... Wink

Well the monitors have to come down a bit, they are too high.

The stuff in the left and right rack is basically never touched apart from turning on and off.

So from the seat I can easily get at the middle 3 racks.

The G2 can be pulled across to where the mouse is If I need to use it (very rarely).

The main issue I see is getting at the backs of the units, it is an absolute pain, but now it is all setup hopefully I won't need to.

Wishful thinking indeed. You could at least make sure the other ends of all the wires back there are where you can find them.

I have 1/2m between the wall/window and the rack. It's the bare minimum of space I need to swing my head in there, sometimes with a torch on my head to look in. And this studio has been here 5 years, and the only major change to the layout was a change in the keyboard rack which is totally in the open.

That said, maybe you just need to rip a studio apart and reclaim all the bits, before you set it up again.

But I still think you should have some access to your panel backsides.

I've been switching back and forth between DAWs and HD recorders for the last three or so years. So I'm quite used to doing full re-wires.

Even so, it's always a huge pain in the arse. And last time I did my back in like Andy. You're not alone!

I also use one of those head torch thingies round the back of racks / gear - very useful!
