just yesterday I experienced the first block of the motherboard of my G4. Fortunately a friend of mine (a Mac technician) told me what to do:
open it
take the lythium battery off
push the reset button of the motherboard for at least 30 seconds
put the battery back on
close it down
turn it on
set the clock
WOW, it was working again.
I had kicked my ass, metaphorically, all afternoon for not backing anything up but now I have been warned _________________ homepage - blog - forum - youtube

i don't understand. I always thought that the HD in a mac will not be erased even if the system goes down. Disk Warrior could not repair anything? |

I had tried starting up from the OSX 10.3 installer DVD, nothing.
Tried with Norton Systemwoks 3.0 CD, nothing
I did not have Disk Warrior at hand, I was panicking.
Too bad I forgot to call Athens for _________________ homepage - blog - forum - youtube

Even the beloved Mac is not immune to disk damage from hardware faults. Drives nowadays have built-in controller ICs that can develop hardware problems, and there are disk and bus controller chips on the mother boards too. When these chips fail it can cause all of the data on the drive to become bad, or totally useless and unrecoverable. It doesn't matter what brand of computer you have.
There are RAID disks. These are redundant drives configured in such a way that if a drive fails, there is an online backup running in parallel that can take over on the fly. These are fantastic and I recommend them to everyone for every computer. This costs more than a single drive, of course, but it is worth it. Still, you can have catastrophic data loss on RAID drives as well, although the probability is much less.
I don't mean to be an alarmist, but it really is a good idea to back up your data. |

seraph, test it:
reboot with the apple + S (single user) , wait until appear a large list of commands in black background, when the list stopped write this:
sbin/fsck -f (+enter)
let it work, if everything goes well, you'll see a messagge like this:
the (your hard disk) volume appears to be OK.
if it does not appear this message, repeat again (sbin/fsck -f).
Like I tell you now your volume appears to be OK,
write reboot.
Now the panther is with you, go to utilities and open disk utilities, select your volume and repair permissions.
And thats All |
