LED Screen Going out? |
|
|
I fear my LCD screen may be going out. Has this happened to anyone else? I am probably just being paranoid as usual with my A6 but the screen seems dimmer than normal. I already had her repaired and I refuse to send her off again. Can anyone tell me if it's possible for the screen to go out? I have only had it for a year. |

Is it even possible for LEDs to dim? Does the backlight display use LEDs or is it a CRT? Cause I know for a fact CRTs dim over time. |

An LCD screen uses crystals that can be oriented for each pixel to block or unblock a back light (or incident light) depending on a control voltage. The back light can be made from LEDs or TL tubes and both can be dimmed to make the display less bright. LCDs do have an aging effectand they can burn in too (the crystals becoming lazy) (although not as badly as CRTs).
Don't know how bad your display is, but aging should not be really noticeable after a year (unless in a direct comparison to a new one maybe). There are possible mechanical defects that cause LCDs to become faint, like bad contacts (zebra stripes).
Can you send a picture showing what it looks like? _________________ Jan

If I were to send a picture in I was just get called a baby. Cause I don't think anything is REALLY wrong with it. I just sense that the color is off slightly and it may be heading downhill.
It will be one full year that I've had it after this new years comes up |

Silly question, but I always try to start with the simplest solution before assuming the worst, have you tried using the contrast knob?
I assume when you say you've had it one year you purchased it new, is that correct?
Why in the heck would you think someone would call you a baby for posting a picture of your display on this forum?
I know there are some forums out there where the membership can be quite mean and aggressive but I've found nothing but courteous, helpful, adult members here, who share a common bond in their love for the Andromeda. |

Exactly, we'd never do that, and this would be enforced with some aggression even _________________ Jan

Could be, I see this with laptop screens ... when the laptop is new the screen is very bright and blueish, and then after some time (like a couple of years) it seems to get dull and yellowish, which can best be seen by having a couple of generations of laptops side by side. As long as it's not getting dim and misty I'd not worry about it. _________________ Jan
