Sounds like fun! What system requirements are there? Do I need a lot of RAM? I've got this sucky computer that has, not 256mb, not 512mb, but 384mb of RAM. Go figure! It's upgradable to 512, but that's it.

Should work for me, then. I'm at the Shoutcast page right now, checking it out. Don't have Edcast yet, though, and haven't looked at it. I'm new to both.

I downloaded and installed T-u-b-e, but I can't seem to find it in my VST host. Sad

Gary Rea,
Do you have a broadband internet connection? Probably a more important piece of the equation...

Sweet Gary! next step would be making sure you can use the chat room. it is the communication tool for streaming. click on the chatroom in the right hand corner in the forum. if you have current java it should open up. if not it will stall out on a blue screen with smileys. either download the lastest java or use a different irc, but that will take a bit more work.

come in the chat room in time this weekend (or tonight) and someone will get you hooked up with a port and p.w. to get you started testing your stream.

BTW, i dont live too far down the road from you there Gary!

Thanks, Shane. Well, as you know now, that didn't work out very well for me. Sad I guess I'm in need of a computer that is better suited to the task. It does fine for MIDI and recording, but is seriously limited as an audio performance platform.

I've had the thought, since my frustrations of earlier today, that maybe Reason 3.0 might be more compatible with Edcast. I wonder if anyone can confirm that? All I'd have to do is reinstall it and see if it works better than Mixcraft as a streaming application.

Gary

I had a wonderful time streaming live during SaturdayNightStreamingLiveFever!!!

Throughout the entire day... I believe there were more informal live impromtu performances than any other day Ive seen on here. That's Exciting! props

Late in the evening, Les, Jan, Mark Mahoney (I believe his first), and I had a wonderful streaming collaboration that lasted quite a while. Great Journey guys! Recording of the jam will be made available soon.

[quote="shanemorris"]electro-music.com now has Regularly Scheduled Radio Programs!

Check Out the Schedule.

OK, lemme get this straight, as a complete & utter Noob... do you hook up to a server and JAM with others in 'realtime'? Or do you just perform your own stuff?

It's very hard to find people to actually PLAY/JAM with. 99 percent of the musicians on Craigslist are looking for a 25 - 28 year old Metal guitarist (male) who wants to go play at Bars or go to the "top".

So if there is a way to PLAY with other people online, how do I get started? First of all, I have broadband internet, but what software do I need?

Hi laura
we have very informal jams ... unscheduled. We haven't been doin them as much lately. But, they often are Saturday evening affairs.
Broadband is great!
What OS are you using? We use Edcast s.w. It is free. IF you are a PC user get the stand-alone version http://www.oddsock.org/tools/edcast/
come into the chat after installing and someone will eventually be able to help you. Weekends are a good time.

Live Jams? Hmmmm. I've been going through my catalogue of personal patches looking for sounds that stand the test of time and space and trying to develop a setup to do live performance/streaming. If there's going to be a jam session, I'd like to get my feet wet with interactive streaming collaboration. Perhaps I can add something to the mix.

Thanks Shane.

I downloaded it, but I don't see any sort of dialog boxes, help files etc.
I hooked up my keyboard with a MIDI cable (or should that be an audio cable?) but I don't see any way to tell the program what I am using. (microsoft windows XP, and a Lexicon Lambda ASIO soundcard device). the program keeps telling me it is connecting, but no server information ever appears.

A week or so ago, I successfully tested edcast. Folks in chat stepped me through the set up. There's a link somewhere. Here it is:

http://electro-music.com/forum/topic-13780.html

That got me started. I downloaded the required software, opened the software up, then went to chat for the step-by-step help. It sounds like you might have done the basics already. If so, try chat.

Dudes and Gals, I don't know if you noticed but there are 250,000 reads on this thread and only 44 posts. That is way more than normal as far as I know on electro-music.com. Maybe we should do something about weekend stream jams for like Saturday and Sunday, Washing Machines, Ninjam, or whatever. Just a thought.
