http://noise.io/

I use beatmaker and noise.io, the last being a very interesting fm synth, with an original and creative interface, both applications work together and I can export or import work from and to my home studio.

Noise.io will soon have midi over wifi, and I can use my phone to control things live or experiment with even further..

I enjoy the apps, they cost a few euros, are a lot of fun and it 'beats' playing snake on a train.

Good thing I've visited NL or I wouldn't understand that comment. We don't have too many trains here in the USA. Rolling Eyes

It was actually a joke on

- beats
- the snake game on early mobile phones
- wasting time on the dutch railways
- the snakes on a plane movie

Wink

On a more serious note, I just got the update for noise.io, a lot of things are created and updated, but I am really looking forward to the next update announced wifi midi options, because it is both a sequencer and kaosspad-like interface.. great possibilities for a phone!

Personally I really disliked this application (Noise.IO).. I found its interface counter-intuitive. However, Noise IO has a very good sound engine.

My money at this time is on nLog Cool

iApp wars!!! Wink Laughing

I'm sure as time goes by all of the apps will improve. Having a sequencer is nice.

Maybe. In my experience apps don't change that much in appearance from their initial release- or if they do, it only happens over a long period- look how Logic has changed. From Creator/ Notator to what it is now. It's why I've always loved Clavia's gear for example. I prefer nLog because its interface is more immediate. But that's just me Very Happy

The best review I could find on noise.io .. Wink

Many many more people will be making preset bleeps and bloings and a lot of it will saturate, but at least we're making music with our telephones.. a great and wonderful thing, I couldn't have dreamed of when I started making music electronically. (Although I remember programming some very rude mono stuff on the nokia 32** sometime ago)

The iphone has so many features to use and utilize, such as tilt, touch, move, throw and localization. And the place to do it is in third party applications. The development of applications is not hard and in my humble opinion, a very just and commercially friendly one. People can test, try and experiment at home. The user can develop, sell, use or distribute applications for free, or a price they choose.
The noise.io (or any other application) is not an apple product and has made fun use of the possibilities of the iphone for you, for a small price.

On dutch television there are still a lot of commercials who try to sell very expensive ringtones to the people, ringtones which sound terrible, have no purpose at all and end up being a waste of peoples money. (plus making your own is something everybody could and should be doing.)

Maybe we should take these things less serious, maybe I should take these things more serious, I don't know.

I've had nLog shut down too. That's what I said about bugs. It just stops making sound and you have to restart it.

No big deal. I'm sure it will get fixed. The more I use these apps, I see there is no one that is so powerful that it excludes all the others. They are so cheap that it's no big deal to invest in one that looks promising. If it's not to your liking, you will learn something of the capabilities of these apps and it should improve your appreciation of the ones you do like.

as mosc said, the sound just dies. i figured it was from being overloaded with information. great little synth. reminds me of my old arp omni. i miss that thing.

Now I never get this, but maybe it's because nLog is running out of memory? I use an additional i-app called FreeMemory, which releases upper memory out of the iPhone's 40mb memory limit (yes it only has a limit of 40mb- don't ask me why? Question ). The alternative way to unfreeze memory is do a hard reset- but this to me sometimes seems a little OTT.

I thought the iphone has 16mb of memory, not 40!? Aaah well..

I get the same thing in beatmaker, except it doesn't crash, but gives me a nice warning telling me I'm almost running out of memory and should save and reboot. Maybe they could do the same?

EDIT: Now I'm reading 128 mb ram... which is a lot and means the way they spend it is your problem!

Hi,

I just found your interesting discussion today. I actually fixed the bug on the weekend regarding NLog stop making sound sometimes. So, I will prepare an update this week to be scheduled to Apple. It also will come with some new features like

- extend osc pitch to +/- 24
- rand wave for LFO (sample & hold)
- switching osc OFF
- chorus
- distortion
- echange of sounds banks by email, open sounds from web pages
- some more waveforms
- improved GUI of save panel and performance params setting

There are also some bug fixes like handling when iPhone locks or a phone call is coming in.

So, I am hoping that you will get even more fun with NLog in upcoming update.

In my development stream I already have some arpeggiator running and working on sequencing, but this will take some additional time and will follow after next update. But this will be GREAT fun.

Any suggestions and feedback is allways welcome! Also likns to vids or mp3s about your performances with NLog...

Cheers
Rolf

looking forward to the updates. really nice app. the distortion will be nice for more aggressive tones.

i had it oscillating by itself. but cant seem to get it to do it again. is there a trick to that that i missed. any ideas. i'd love to see self-oscillation. i'm more into knobtwiddlin' than keyboarding.
