The Moog that exists today has about as much to do with the company that made the Minimoog as well, a packet of peanuts quite frankly. Bob Moog got out of Moog in the '77 and hadn't been in control since '73. He didn't even know how much Norlin paid for the company back in the buy-out several years before. (I know that this isn't strictly relevant, but hang in there)The intellectual property will have passed between these original companies up to Norlin, but the Moog we know today came from Bob's company Big Briar, he only gained the right to use the Moog name again quite late on. As far as I can tell, the current Moog have no hold on any more rights to the designs of these earlier incarnations than anyone else.
Heck as far as history goes, Bob didn't really design (much of) the Mini anyhow, I know this is fighting talk, but he almost stopped it being made as far as I understand.

Now, if we are talking about logos, that may be a deferent matter, these are registerable....

My tuppence worth.

Cheers,
Ben

Would it be okay to share the information regarding the dimensions of the case for the minimoog? I'd love to build a self-containted synth into an identical case. I have a few old j-wire organ keyboards that would work perfectly in one.

A lot of the appeal of the mini is the look and layout. A nice homebrew 2 oscillator synth would look great in that kinda case. I considered doing this with my Soundlab Ultimate, but Ray's prefabricated/drilled pannels were too nice to pass on.

Hi,
There's actually a Monimoog case on ebay at the moment. Ends very soon though.
I thinks there are some plans that someone did floating around but I can't lay my hands on them at the moment...

I don't think there is anything wrong with that at all. Smile

I'd love to build the case myself. I enjoy woodworking, even though I'm far from good at it. Luckily, my Dad is though, and his collection of woodworking tools comes in handy!

What I've found so far:
OVERALL SIZE (with Front Panel down):
28 1/4" wide, 16" deep, 5 1/2" high

Here are a few places that make these (for way too much for my budget):

You might want to look at Google SketchUp for prototyping. Building cases is hard work! Planning comes highly recommended.

http://sketchup.google.com/

and a minimoog voyager to get you started.

The cabinet this guy got made for a restoration job for $25 is just amazing:

I'm going to ask him if he is willing to measure out his cab.

You might want to check with Wes at Analogics too - he might be able to help you out:

Hey Guys,

Wes was reluctant to share the information, since his main means of income come from the creation and sale of his cabinets and repairs.

That being said, I think I'm perfectly fine with building a cabinet similar to that of the minimoog, based on the 44 key organ keyboard I took out of a Kimball (which can be found dirt cheap or free all over the place). I'll be posting the creation process as I'm working on it. I might just do an approximation based on the general size and see how well it works out with my keyboard. I'll start a new thread when I begin making some headway.

A picture is worth a thousand words

http://www.toptell.com.br/minimoog/bigimages/

That right there should be enough information to reconstruct a cabinet. There are enough images of the wood panels being assembled laying flat down that if you scale it properly in a program (photoshop), you can figure out the slope of the side panels, etc. pretty easily.
