Subject description: Crunchy electronic basses for Easter
Reply with quote  Mark this post and the followings unread

For one of the celebratory songs in my church's Easter Sunday service tomorrow, I needed a fairly standard electronica bass sound, one on which I could vary the grunge and intensity of the bass for different parts of the song.

I sat down to patch it today, and was actually fairly happy with what I produced, so I thought I'd share it with you all. It's nothing fancy, but I think it does the job reasonably well, and I thought sharing it would be a way I could give a little bit back to the community that's taught me so much about music and synthesizers. I mostly lurk, but even lurking here has taught me a lot. Hopefully someone out there enjoys these basses.

I tried to make a reasonable set of front-panel assignments, and made five variations - I think a few other good flavors could come out of the patch, too.

As the patch points out, the overdrive is mapped to the main modwheel - crank it up if you want crunch, and roll it back down when you want a softer bass. Variation five uses modwheel #1 for the digitizer's rate parameter, just because.

I made it polyphonic, which is pretty nontraditional, I know, but it's handy for one or two things I'm doing with it.

Comments, critiques, and modifications are welcome.
