What kind of materials do people use to make the ribbon of the ribbon controller?? I looked at scott stites and one on curious inventor, and they look pretty professional... is anyone in the know?

A while back somebody published a method of using VHS Tape as the resistive element against copper shielding tape as the conductors.

I'm using black rubber conductive bag(aka ESD bag or anti static bag)
for ribbon part of my handmade ribbon controller.
