Ouch, sorry .. BTW, have listened to your "Mindspiral JNN014 The Redundancy of Suicide --- 62 Min Run Time" release, the collaboration you did with Tim Walters ..... Good stuff man --- and this was a FREE DL ... !!

Thanks, Bill. Yes, it was a free DL... there's a lot of phenomenally good EM on netlabels like JustNotNormal and Earth Mantra, and it's all free Creative Commons! I have albums for sale, but I get a major kick out of giving some of my stuff away for free. It's always fun to listen to the calcified remnants of the major-label era whining that I'm "killing what's left of the music business".
mindSpiral is a whole series of collaborations between me and various other people who are too slow to slam down the phone when I call them... that one was number 6, and consisted of Tim on SuperCollider and me on assorted old analog and digital toys. We have some unreleased outtakes that get aired on Stillstream sometimes under the collective title "The Suicide of Redundancy", the most popular being a shortish track entitled "The Angelic Hosts of Heaven Descend to Chew Enthusiastically on the Northeast Corner of the Chrysler Building (Slight Return)".
or something like that.
Oh, in other news: apparently a recent cancellation has allowed me to join the roster for the Summer Solstice concert, so y'all are stuck listening to me make noise again. I'll post my little concert blurb thingy when I get a chance. Good fun to be had by all!

ps. I have just learned that Inventor has given up half his slot to make room for me. I am humbled and very grateful. Thanks, Mr. ChucK! _________________ mike metlay * metlay@atomiccity.com

Information for Metlay! set for the summer solstice concert |
|
|
Here's my information for the Solstice Concert:
1.Preferred Start Time (GMT/UTC): whatever's available
2.Name (stage name if there is one): Metlay! (with the bang, please)
3.Location: Boulder, CO
4.Real name: Mike Metlay
5.Username: mmetlay
6.Set Length (30 or 60 min.): 30 min.
7.One or Two Paragraph Description: As is the custom on his weekly Internet radio show Spiral (Sunday nights on StillStream 6 AM to 8 AM GMT), Mike Metlay will take this opportunity to play one of the entirely improvised ambient sets he calls his Live Ambient Rants. He'll have his analog, digital, and software synths fired up and ready to go, and perhaps Betty, his trusty 5-string baritone aebea as well... and we'll just have to see what happens from there, won't we?
***
Thanks so much to Shane, Howard, and the electro-music crew for finding room for me in the program. I'll try not to disappoint!
mike
ps. There is always the possibility that the sudden arrival of a collaborator might turn this into an impromptu mindSpiral set. I hope no one minds? _________________ mike metlay * metlay@atomiccity.com

Already waiting for the Summer Solstice 2009.
This time I can't participate because of some logistic problems I have yet to resolve. But I'll be listening.
Hope everything will run ok.
See you soon |

I sort of stumbled across MindSpiral once before then I took a more serious look at it after you posted here yesterday and it's fantastic! Thanks for the bit of background on that to. Oh but that title, yes, it does reek of a bit of cheese but we will forgive you guys as alcohol may have been involved

Well funny you mention. Some of us were on the electro-music chat last evening while listening to Shane's radio show when I had mentioned that you posted here and were disappointed by the fact that no more spots were open for SS09. Well, you see the results from that conversation. Shane, Jan, and all the guys are really super to hang with and thank YOU for participating in SS09 !

I'd be willing to cut my time in half, so as to make room should some artist really want to get in on the roster. _________________ M< |

Your Welcome!
But, I wasn't alone. EdisonRex and Blue Hell have been involved from the beginning as well. They are my technical, philosophical, and spiritual sounding board for consultation in these matters. Thanks Paul and Jan for all of your help here and on the forum!
Furthermore, Jez Creek (MODULATOR ESP) made a wonderful poster for the event! Thanks so much Jez!
Plus, I must mention my thanks to Electro-Dad, Howard... for creating this playground for us! _________________ ElectroCasa Last edited by shanemorris on Mon May 18, 2009 3:58 am; edited 1 time in total |

14 1/2 Hours of Music |
Just got back from driving round the country. If you care to make it an even 15 hours, I'm game.
1.Preferred Start Time (GMT/UTC): 14:30
2.Name (stage name if there is one): Acoustic Interloper
3.Location: Berks County, PA
4.Real name: Dale Parson
5.Username: Acoustic Interloper
6.Set Length (30 or 60 min.): 30 min.
7.One or Two Paragraph Description:
7a. Map words in a Scrabble game to block chords or arpeggios, where each tile (letter) is a note in a scale configged for that midi channel.
7b. Fold in config parameters for overall tempo, and per midi channel configs for midi patch, sustain, velocity, accents/arpeggiation patterns (with any number of steps), notes-per-harmonic-interval, tonic, scale, and arpeggiation range. These all get played on the fly during the games. Nothing is fixed.
7c. Repeat 7b for up to 16 midi channels, patches folded in and out during the game.
7d. Run this out osx's midi-to-audio driver
7e. Loop output thru Ableton Live, tastefully applied.
I'll be demoing this at NIME 2009 in 12 days from now.
If I get in, it'll be my first time streaming from mac/osx instead of windows, would appreciate any tips, and will need some way to test my output stream a day (or more) ahead of time.
If the schedule is officially maxxed, then next time! I'll be listening! _________________ When the stream is deep

Great poster! One comment - there is actually 15 hours of music in the current schedule, not 14. Howard's set at the end starts at 05:00 GMT but on the assumption he is going to play for an hour, it will end at 06:00 GMT, which makes an even 15 hours of music.
Also, FYI StillStream is starting to promote the event. See our special events schedule here: http://www.stillstream.com/schedule.php?lh=30
Cheers!
