Just wondering, for all 4xxx cmos chips, do the unused inputs need to be grounded? for example, i am about to add 4001 quad 2in NOR gates, but only want to add 2 out of 4, should the inputs on the top half of the chip go to ground or do i need to bother? didn't see anything on the datasheet about it, but im assuming they are like 40106 etc..

For all CMOS type devices all unused input pins should be either tied to ground or to the positive supply rail. Or more in general, high impedance inputs should have a well defined level otherwise they'll follow whatever electron happens to be moving in that connection.
