That was amazing, Carlo! Very Happy I have to admit, when I saw the photo, I thought I was going to hear some cheesey Theremin-like sounds, so this really blew me away. That's a fairly decent flute sample. Did you use the Ribbonflute to make the percussion track, also, or was that done with another instrument?

Gary

I remember seeing something, years ago, about using ribbons controllers; don't recall where or when, though. So, the technology's really nothing new. I suppose one can order it from anywhere, right? 250 Euros works out to about $351 US. Not too bad, I guess. I've paid more for software synths. This would work perfectly with my current setup, via USB. There's no end to the sounds I could use with it, via VST, either. Cool! Very Happy

Ha! nice once Carlo!

Did you program the scale into the ribbon controller? You used some other controller as well, or is the expression coming from the dynamics of playing only?

Jan
the surface of the ribbon controller is quantized to "major scale" but the scale is loaded with the flute sample (Spectrasonics Omnisphere).
the dynamics is all coming from playing: pressure, in this case, is assigned to control (open/close) the filter.
the ribbon does not send midi velocity.

Ah ... it does pressure, great! Wondered if you had maybe used a breath controller for that, but no need then.

So, the scale is a function of whatever sample or VSTi you're using, then.

Wow, that kicks ass.

Maybe the first synthesized sax I've heard that didn't suck, this sounds pretty convincing.

Clearly this ribbon controller allows a much finer, and perhaps more intuitive, level of inflection control than is possible with pitch levers.

thanks Jeff
well, the ribbon controller has 2 sensors (position and pressure) plus, you can choose the range of midi notes it generates and other parameters are programmable: pitch quantization, pitch bend amount, transposition etc.
The soprano sax sound is still a sample but the slight pitch variations that are introduced, thanks to the ribbon controller, makes it more convincing.
