Boolean Sequencers Subject description: In their various forms... do you use one? |

Hi, when I first started hobbying in music two years ago I had no knowledge of sequencers. Rather than learn about the state of the art, I explored and imagined and came up with a thing I call a Boolean Sequencer. Two years later I have discovered variations of it in older and newer posts on the Lunetta and Klee forums, indicating that a sort of synthesis of ideas is bubbling up. It's like they say, when an idea's time has come lots of people think of it independently.
To make a Boolean Sequencer, what you do is hang some logic off of a binary counter. As the counter counts, the logic produces a sequence of ones and zeros that can be a very pleasing melody, and is typically much more complex than say a step sequencer. I've also done things like adding up the number of sum-of-product terms that are active and using it to control frequency or to step up and down a scale or whatever.
Historically, I feel that the Boolean Sequencer is nothing new. Back in the original days of synthesizers there were counters and logic and it must have been an obvious thing to hook them up together. What might be new in the approach is the use of logic matrices to define the patterns and the different ways that one can control other aspects of the tune like frequency or whatever with the logic, it's sum, or say an R2R ladder of the terms.
So I'm posting to ask for your thoughts on this interesting little sequencer, do you use one or have you heard reference to them elsewhere? I also attached an audio sample of two guitars controlled by a boolean sequencer. I created the sample with both logic matrices having a similar but different pattern on them, so the guitars complement each other nicely - sometimes in synch and sometimes doing their own thing.

Did you post the chuck code for this anywhere?
Cheers
