Fuzzhugger AB Synth fuzz pedal Subject description: It's amazing |

I received my AB Synth almost a week ago. The customer has a choice of colors, graphics, etc. but I just chose what is now the standard look:
The left footswitch toggles the Oscillation mode. With this mode off, the pedal has a nice fuzz sound, suitable for power chords and general rocking out. I goofed off for a bit, playing the "Iron Man" riff and related stuff.
The oscillation mode is where this pedal gets really interesting. With the guitar volume knob in most settings, there is a sort of arpeggiation of octave and 5th notes below whatever note is being fretted. Without my hands on the fretboard at all, the oscillator still spits out glorious buzzy notes. I found there are generally two places I can set the guitar volume knob to "tune" the oscillator to the fretted note pitch - all the way up, and some point between that and, well, all the way down. The guitar tone knob also has an effect on the sound, but it seems quite a bit more subtle. I'd have to play around with it some more. I love the oscillation mode! It's fantastic for freaked out sounds, yet quite controllable from the guitar knobs and of course one's guitar playing in general. I'm not sure how it would work with my electric cello, as I'd have to put down my bow to tweak the volume slider on the cello's preamp box.
Sustain is amazing in both Normal and Oscillation mode, even when playing through headphones rather than a guitar amp (amp speaker feedback being the "normal" way to get extended sustain without getting a special device like an Ebow). No compressor needed for this sustain!
For my initial "evaluation" (more like noodling around) I had the AB Synth output connected to HOG input, then HOG output connected to VG-99 running my "default" preset, which is simply the monophonic input running straight into the Fender Twin amp model and a bit of reverb. BTW, the modeled Twin's modeled springs were reacting to the AB Synth whenever it was engaged - every plucked note produced a "sproing" sound from the Twin. It'll be interesting to see if my Fender Hot Rod Deluxe will do that too.
This is my first fuzz pedal. I'm very satisfied with it, as I bought it for the Oscillation mode. Other oscillating fuzz pedals sell for much more than this one - it's a great deal for a "boutique" pedal. _________________ Current and recent work on Soundcloud
