Steiner VCF Subject description: Cuttof Potentiometer Range |
|
|
Hi Yves:
Today I finished the Steiner VCF, I love how it sounds!!!
In the schematics and wiring diagram there isn't a input attenuator pot, so I
used a 50K log, as in the Minimoog VCF. It worked well, but I want to be sure
is the right value.
Also the cutoff frequency potentiometer has a strange range. It reaches the
maximum frequency about half the travel. It's OK in the low end (could be lower,
but not much).
I played a bit with the VA/Oct trimmer, but it seem to affect the behavior towards
the low end, so it doesn't improve the point where the potentiometer reaches the
max frequency.
To be clear, by max frequency I mean the point where the filter is totally open.
So the frequency range is compressed in the lower half of the potentiometer
and I want to span it to the full travel.
What could be wrong (If it is something wrong) or how can I modify the behavior.
Thanks a lot for this project. _________________ Sebo

I built the 2SC1583 version. _________________ Sebo

Hi Sebo
Yes 50K log is OK.
Concerning the frequency range, check that R21 is 68K and R22 is 220K and P1 57K/50K lin .
If this is the case then you may increase the value of R22 up to 390K _________________ Yves |

Thanks Yves!!!
I will check the components and report back. _________________ Sebo

Hi Yves:
I'm a little confused here, in my build, P1 is 50K lin, that's OK, but R21 is 47K
and R22 is 150K as listed in your site for the 2SC1583 version. The values
you are giving me are for the CA3096 version. Should I try the other values?
Or should I rise the value of R22?
Thanks. _________________ Sebo

Yes you're right I checked the wrong schemo, in such a case yes increase the value of R22 (either a 270K or a 220K) _________________ Yves |

Hi Yves:
I finally added a 130K resistor in series with R22 (for a total resistance of 280K)
at the wiper of the frequency pot.
The range of the frequency cutoff si a little narrow yet, but if I increase R22
the high limit goes out of range. I think the range is OK anyway.
The filter sounds amazing!!!
Thanks a lot for the help.
Here are some pictures.
