Hi:
I think 2N4391 or 2N4392 are good replacements, not sure about the pinout.

I used a 2N5457 on my YuSynth VCO and it seems to work fine.

Hi
If you look for a replacement for J111 or J112, what is important is to check that the drain-source resistor value is smaller or equal to 60 ohms when in conductive (saturated) mode. It is referenced as Rds in datasheets.
I checked the datasheets of 2N4391 and 2N4392 and they are good substitutes with a preference for 2N4391

i found some BF244B and 2N3819, could they be a replacement?
the specs are a little different, but would it work for a while until i found the j112?

here are the datasheet:
http://www.fairchildsemi.com/ds/2N%2F2N3819.pdf
http://www.datasheetcatalog.org/datasheet/fairchild/BF244B.pdf

thanks,
ruben

No BF244 and 2N3819 are not to be used for the VCO, their Rds is much to high. It would be very difficult to obtain a good tracking over the high octaves ! It is very important that you use one of reference listed above : 2N4391 or 2N4392 or 2N5457. It must be FET specialized in switching task.
