Increasing SRAM card size |
|
|
When buying a SRAM card for the A6 I was faced with the absolutely ridiculous prices. It was also very hard to find one at all. In the end I ended up buying a 512K sized card.
I decided to take it apart and see if it were possible to increase the memory size by soldering on some more chips. After a lot of pocking the card with a multimeter, it turned out it was.
If anyone is interested, I can upload the PCB scans and show exactly what parts needed to be added. (Apart from the memory chips themselves, I had to add capacitors, an inverter and change a jumper). You have to realize that even if you have unpopulated footprints to soldier on more memory chips you probably don't have a PCB exactly like mine, so you'll have too figure out yourself what changes need to be made for the new chips to be seen.
So if anyone has a PCMCIA SRAM card and is experienced with soldiering, I'd recommend tacking the memory card apart and installing some more chips. It's definitely cheaper (and quicker) that buying another card.
IF YOU AREN'T SURE OF WHAT YOU'RE DOING, DON'T DO IT!!! Chances are, you'll end up with a dead card. But again, it worked for me |

well could be far more easy to buy a PCMCIA adapter (I payed mine 6 euro) and use a standard SD or MMC or compact flash inside it...
I have done this with my V-Synth and it works with 2GB. But the Andy can't see more than 2mb... |

That won't work, SRAM and flash are not the same thing. |

Have anyone tried this?
Is there a chance that it will work? |
