Show your Benjolin / Zeitgeist Subject description: A place to show your Benjolin / zeitgeist
Mine aren't finished yet (I'll not be showing my boards in the Chinese food take-away container now), but this could be a placeholder to post your instruments.
Here is my finished Benjolin. Thanks to Peter Blasser for providing the enclosure and power supply (and for helping me leave with a working Benjolin!). A little black spray paint and some stickers I picked up in Japan provided the panel graphics*. If I can get my Zeitgeist working that will go next to the grill at the top left. I still need to get some knobs for it (any recommendations?).

Beautiful! Wish I'd thought to look here before!
I'm putting mine in a boring black Radio Shack plastic box. I had no clue how to make a hatch that opens so you can change the battery. So I hacked out a square with a hacksaw and taped it on with packing tape. (couldn't live without packing tape.) Oh BTW I assume everyone has put a switch on this thing? Otherwise you'd have to open it EVERY TIME you wanted to turn it on.

That's the Zeitgeist right?
Very nicely done!
Thanks! Yeah that's the Zeitgeist. When I heard the sounds it made, I said "that sounds like Radio from Outer Space!!
Yeah, I don't have ANY electronics background except for LEDs so this was a very first for me as far as Enclosures go. (When I discovered the Drill Press is was love at first sight.)
Well at least I do have some background in Art. LOL. _________________ The most important gear is the brain behind the instrument.

Oooh, what an interesting challenge! Debug a ZeitGeist...
First, feel around and see if anything is running hot, especially a voltage regulator. Next check the supply rails for correct voltages. I'll need a schematic to go any further.

Yeah, there's a good point, how can I get a schematic? The one we used with the kit was almost unreadable & I don't think I have it anymore. _________________ The most important gear is the brain behind the instrument.

Rob, interesting sounds indeed! Did you base the idea on a circuit built within the Nord Modular? They just sound rather similar to some of the noise patches we were playing with all those years back.
You guys should check out Steven Stapleton/ Nurse with Wound's "Soliloquy for Lilith" recordings. These were (apparently- according to Porky, the bloke who cut them in London), done with feedback and pedals. Very similar to some of the sounds at the start of Mike's video.

That's OK laura, we can work without a schematic. You'll just tell me the names of the chips and I'll tell you what pins to probe for signal. You probably don't have a scope so we'll use a multimeter for this.
First, did you feel around for hot chips and check the supply rail(s)?
Les
and btw, we should split this off to another thread... _________________ "Let's make noise for peace." - Kijjaz
