VST, I/O, and Mix Presets on Mac Mini Live? |

I never really thought about doing something like that but I can see how it would work beautifully for me and replace some of my gear.
I'm running a live synth bass guitar rig right now. I could sell my pitch->MIDI converters, MIDI-controlled line mixer, and some other hardware and get the StringPort, which operates on USB 2.0 and offers much better latency, and a Firewire interface with comprehensive I/O's. I'd need to be able to run a few VST's but more importantly, mix live on the Mac by calling up preset mixes via MIDI instantly.
I'd also need to be able to route the inputs to different outputs and vice versa, mix signals together to certain outputs, and recall all of the settings with MIDI program change messages like I can with my AKAI MB76. I think it could be doable and I've got enough equipment to sell that it wouldn't be too much of a financial hardship for me.
Ideally, I'd like to be able to map program changes and CC's from my foot controller out to various other MIDI messages, but I think at that point I might be asking for too much live processing. I'd be fine sticking with the Nord Modular G2 Engine for things like that.
Having the opportunity to use the StringPort live would really change everything and probably get the tracking and latency in my system to completely usable performance levels.
Any thoughts, software recommendations, etc? |
