Hi,

There doesn't seem to be a great deal of info around on the Blofeld's sample playback capabilities, can anyone enlighten me as to how it currently works? i.e:

- can you play your samples polyphonically?

- To what extent can you modulate your samples? Can you put them through everything that a normal Osc goes through?

- Is there any destruction in audio quality?

Cheers!

Yes you can. Samples are treated exactly the same as the oscillators.

See above. Smile

Not unless you want there to be. Twisted Evil

The sample option is a nice addon to the blofeld. You can load anything from oneshots to multisamples. The downside is you have to reload the samples each time; you can't add to an existing set and it takes time. I think to load 60mb would take 30 minutes. It's not that bad in practise but i usually work with smaller sets anyway.

Can you clarify this a bit? Do mean, every time you turn the synth on you need to re-load the samples?

Thanks

Randy

No i mean transmitting the samples from Spectre. It takes a few minutes to transmit samples to the blofeld. Spectre gives you an estimate of how long to will take as well but it usually is a bit quicker. You can try out the spectre software and even create your own programs and save them. Smile

Thanks for the clarification. I've been considering what to get next, and the Blofeld is at the top of my list.

So what then can the Nord Wave do in terms of sample processing that the Blofeld cannot?

I cannot figure out how the Blofeld seems to offer all it does for so much less £ than other VAs.

Good question. Basically, with the wave, the knobs add to the cost a lot, as does other hardware issues. The blofeld has some corners cut in the hardware department, even though it's a fantastic sounding synth with lots of control. Take a look at the guts of the blofeld:

I wouldn't buy a blofeld quite yet, because it still has a few issues in the software to sort out. As I have understood it, there is no proper multi-timbral mode, and there are a few other quite serious issues to sort out too. However, a new os version seems to be in the works so it will hopefully not be too long now....

Cheers Muied. NAMM started today and Waldorf are there so it'll be interesting to see if they show any new developments.
