Just finished a few 'Noisemakers' as a present for my ward Ollie - it was his 10th birthday, and the family were only in the UK for a few days. I had zero debug time, so I missed a minor assembly fault on the PIC synth's display. I'll sort it when I see them at Christmas - it works fine. The controls on the PIC synth are miniature sealed cermets, with integral knob. I got a batch virtually free in some scrap, (they cost over £5 each in normal quantities), otherwise I'd have gone for Alpha pots and ReAn knobs. The box is transparent red, so I just put a window in the panel overlay to let the display show through. Ollie had a hand in the panel design for the Cacaphonator, He wanted handles like my WSG, fortunately I found some old ones just the right size in the scrap box.

I bet he really likes that, nice build.
Thanks: I think my next project for him may have to be a mixer, with a headphone output - his mum and sister are getting a bit of an ear-bashing at the moment.
I'm hoping to get an external audio interface to work on his net book, then he can do some recording. _________________ Mike

Start of my Synthasystem!
Thought I'd share these here, too. My Steiner Synthasystem resurrection is well under way. VCO, VCF, and Triple EG pictured here. I don't have a photo of the VCA. Also tested, Sequencer, Peak Selector, and Frequency Divider. I've got prototypes for a VC Trigger Generator, and Sample & Hold on order.

Thank you! Yes, made a board to mount switches and LEDs. It was easier that way... The pots are still hole mounted though. But that way I didn't have to have the ugly nut on the front panel. And just the pot shaft goes through the panel. _________________ http://www.thehumancomparator.net/

Oh man! That's a thing of beauty! I sincerely apologise to Ray for not liking the design in the first place- as this has clearly proved me wrong! _________________ ACHTUNG!

Are there any more details avaible on the sandwich construction? I wonder why you didn't need a fancy interface for deglitching like Scott Stites' ribbon controller?

I did some de-glitching. I skipped the ground-pin on the hotpots and put a 10K ohm resistor between signal and ground instead. Not a fancy solution, but working great.
The sandwich is like this:

I have some pictures of the construction, but I think you get the point from the screen-dumps above.
