Rehearsals Subject description: Getting our grove on... |
|
|
We need to do some rehearsals, or I do anyway. Simple shows like music and audio only go great, but when we throw in Ventrilo or ChucK into the mix and do it on a new Mac we're asking for trouble. Everything should "just work" but it doesn't.
The time sequence of doing things matters, shutting stuff off and on again matters.... it all matters in some strange combination of lunacy!
So let's do some rehearsals. I'll be in the chat and you can get involved. Thanks for your participation - the shows won't go right if we don't rehearse!

Ventrilo Chaos Jam ... although inherently sounds like no rehearsal needed, actually does need a bit of technical practice.
Im in favor of rehearsing for it Les. But Im a bit busy this week. But sometime before Spring Equinox would be good for a few us to try it out again and experiment. _________________ ElectroCasa |

Yeah that Ventrilo Chaos Jam was wild. I'm planning to have a rehearsal tomorrow (Tuesday 2-23-2010) for the Inventor's Inventions shows on Beginner's Lunetta circuits. I'll be testing the use of the line-in jack receiving Lunetta signals and ChucK's ability to receive and process those signals, all going out to the radio. Also tested will be microphone stability during program changes.

I also rehearsed my Shimmering performance on my Thursday Les Hall Show and it went well. This involved two ChucK programs, Line-in, Soundflower, and Nicecast.
It's troublesome because of a few strange behaviors. I have to reboot and start Line-in immediately after booting and even then half of the time it doesn't work. When I start Nicecast, Soundflowerbed (related to Soundflower) quits. Also ChucK does not recognize my wireless headset which is my only mic at this time, and for this reason I must use Line-in when processing vocals with ChucK.
Further, I have no idea if I can stop and start things during a broadcast so at this time I have to leave the mic on during music and you can hear me breathing. It's a mess but I'll get the details figured out in due time.

Ah well Les ... when I start the playlist machine here it usually can not find its network interface, and when it has been on for some time the G2 driver will have crashed so that I can't edit patches with it anymore ... a reboot takes me like 10 minutes there ... it's keyboard sucks so that when I need to type an L it takes me while to get it in ....
Computers, yay!
And looking forward to hear you tonight!

Yesterday I made a nice discovery. If the Line-in program ignores the wireless headset microphone, all I have to do is unplug the USB transmitter and plug it back in. Then I have to tell soundflower to output to the wireless headphones on the 2-channel interface and everything works great! No more losing vocals in the middle of a show...
