how to do this live? first post, certainly not last ;-) |

heey guys, first post here, little intro:
im a guitarplayer in the netherlands, played several bands and played all stages in holland.
after my last solo project:instrumental rock, i couldnt write any more guitarmelodies, so i gave that up, and got something really nice in return: wider vision of electronic music. every day from the beginning of being an artist i was creating loops and wicked sounds on the pc, but: next to the bands i'm still playing in, is this gotten out of hand a little. almost finishing up an album!
ok, and now to the point:
I'm really alive and kicking on stage, and i really want to bring this electro/dance/drumnbass/guitarsounds on stage, but dont know how to start. Several musicians want to help, drums, bass. and that's cool, but what am i gonna do?
i still want to play some riffs i created in the electro, but im also stuck with a computer?
how to do this live, and what am i going to need for hardware?
i own besides guitars, stompboxes and really cool amplifiers a deskpc, a midi keyboard(149 keys), simple mixing table for recording and stuff and a simple line 6 audio interface. i work with sonar and reason a lot!
do i have to mix it like a dj does, or is it possible with band and pc?
it's still not the time yet, i have created for only 45 minutes now, and with looping getting it interesting with bluiding climax can make it till 55 minutes i think, but it;s a question that keeps repeating in my head |

ok thanx! that;s very helpfull i guess
i will look into that for looping.
is that what a sampler does too? like akai and that sort
i was also thinking of getting a simple notebook for just reason en create loops into that program, wich i can tell what loop to play with my keyboard.
but pedalboard is much more simple. i can buy such behringer shizzle and make the laptop work with my feet! midi is the answer ofcourse |

Do you really have a keyboard with 149 keys? That's more than half as wide again as a full piano keyboard! Unless it wraps around, which would be very cool. Kind of like the keyboard Max Rebo plays for Jabba the Hut.
You can also check out tracker software for live looping. If you use Linux, there are some options I can refer you to. |

Hi Paul -
Have you checked out any of the Axon or Roland MIDI gear for us guitar players?
Also check out NI's Guitar Rig + Kontrol.

hi! well, i've got a roland mc909 at home, for just exploring the possibilitys
(bad spelling, i know)
i'll check it out, the roland sjit
ive worked with guitarrig, but i dont like the sounds in guitarrig.
I find the several amps not precise enough.
aradaz is much better i think for software amplification.
but hey, I've got 2 vintage fender amps for that.
im not buying guitarrig just for looping and stuff. then i would choose a behringer footcontroller
im gonna look into the roland gear, and i'll let ya know
i think another topic for the roland mc909 with soundsamples is okay to do next week
greets, oh, and thanx for all the help, is really helping me alot |

Hi Paul -
I was thinking more about the modifiers/modulators in GR4:
http://www.native-instruments.com/#/en/products/guitar/guitar-rig-kontrol/?page=1010
I currently run Komplete6 + rig kontrol & Ableton (in a macbook). Love this rig and I've only just begun to scratch the surface of what this very powerful software can do.
I personally don't use GR just for traditional tones, you can tell if you take a listen to my sounds. You might not know a guitar is triggering synths, etc. Oh, and that is why I mentioned the Roland and Axon stuff too -you can use your guitar as a controller. Lots'a FUN.

sounds wicked!
oh yeah, i tried roland v ready, just for exploring the features.
and ofcourse, it's awesome!
but i think it's not for me, because i'm really banging the instruments like beasty boys on stage.
i like to keep the guitar for traditional guitar.
but it's not that i hate to hear guitar in a different way. It's just, my music deserves a great guitartone.
it's electro mixed up with guitartracks

btw, your music does remind me a bit of robert fripp's solowork. nice! |

Indeed, I'm 110% guilty of bring inspired by the Fripp.
Thanks for the compliment.
Too bad your link was dead, maybe post here in the online music subforum?
Good luck in your search for the right gear!
