Here are a couple new instruments I recently acquired in Kansas City.

Damon Mar of Marsynth made this wonderful cigar box synth for me. I totally love it. It has 2 oscillators (knob or photocell triggered), lfo, and filter cutoff and resonance.

The drum is called udu, ghatam, or simply clay pot drum. It was a very generous gift from ambient musician Steve Brand. Ive actually always meant to getting around to play these drums, but never have. Now I am. Very Happy

Nice Shane. That drum is a beauty. Nice find. The picture resolution allows for some nice close up detail.

Thanks Captain and Bill

I also acquired 2 new instruments yesterday as well. A group of friends here sort of share different instruments collectively. I will have use of these gongs off and on for a long time.
The gongs are from a dear friend of ours that passed away way a few years ago named Rich Trosper. He was an insane jazz drummer, incredible tabla player, and mad scientist and composer with synths that loved experimental, electronic, and ambient music. I miss him a lot and will always be thinking of his influence and inspiration when Im playing these gongs.

Oh yeah... and they are HUGE!!! The smaller is 2.5'' wide and the larger is 3.3'' I put a chair in one of the photos for size reference. I will be recording and playing live on Atmosphera with these gongs... so you will be hearing them soon. Eventually, I will post some samples of them in the field recs section as well. Very Happy

Oh my Shane, gorgeous !!!! Look forward to hearing those. I have been catching your shows as I download them since it;s hard to hear them in real time lately. I play them in my car Cool

Thanks for the touching story about your friend Shane. Sorry he is gone. he sounds wonderful. I am sure you miss him dearly but it's good you keep the spirit alive with the instruments he used.

Sincerely
Bill

Samples?!?! Don't you dare. All the subtle pings, slaps and blurps that thing can do that makes it sound great. PLAY IT!

Shane, yer killin' me. I starting out playing music as a drummer and wanna be percussionist. Gave it all up for Synths in the 80s. Yer givin' me the GAS for some sticks and real stuff to hit with them. Very Happy

hahah you never really quit... piano is a percussion instrument! although a synth isnt a piano... but there is a relationship there. But hey, its never too late!
As far as samples go... thats just to share with my friends Very Happy Ill totally be playing it and I agree there are some nice pings, slaps, and blurps.. and bings!

Just got back from jono's house where we (Boiar) spent a few days catching up. It was the first time we were all together since NYE.
Apart from jono's Eigenharp Pico and Paulo's trumpet we had some new percussion instruments to play with (including the "garrafone", a beer bottle xylophone).
For now some photos, sound proof will come later Wink

Awesome João! Great instruments to add to the stew! Would love to hear the garrophone. Nice pics of the studio as well Very Happy

Ive made a new idiophone instrument as well... gourd water drums or gourdophone, played in water. It has a marimba like sound to it. Ill post pics and some sounds soon.

Ok here is the Gourd water drum.
This is a very simple instrument, yet it does have its own unique sound. The sound resembles a marimba, or an open tone on a conga drum at times. The different sizes and thicknesses of each gourd vary the pitches and timbres. Outside of the water, these gourds don't have much of a sound. The water seals the gourds underside and creates a wonderful resonance.
Here are a few pics of the cleaning process, the final instrument, and testing them out in the sink.
Here are the links to 2 recordings of the gourd water drums. I have placed them into the field recording archives so that possibly more people will see them to use.

Nope sure not ... though not impossible. Laughing

I plan to take a trip to the river with the gourds. Would be fun to play them while swimming and cooling down on a hot day. I want to make a nice field recording that captures the drums sounds in the water as well as the the surroundings along the river.

Here a couple newbies into my soundworlds...

Acquired Komplete 7 a few weeks back ... will be working on these instruments for some time to come. Very Happy

Created the Springboard yesterday evening. Ive been contemplating building this for a while... thought I would get it together for my Halloween set here at electro. Very simple... use a contact mic to amplify and a bass bow for making wonderfully wretched sounds. Twisted Evil

What is that?? Looks intriguing! What are the bottle caps for? Sadly I missed your halloween set, I would love to know what it sounds like.
