Deep in the southwest coast of the south island is our largest national park, Fjordland. Home of the iconic Milford Sound, it is an isolated, lonely, beautiful place. Some recently discovered waterways have been named after the Beatles. This drone/noodle is inspired by one of them, Harrison Fjord.

Compliments from me too, Ian. Can I ask, btw, how you got the basic idea for the tabla patch? I really like the pm osc's that you use to get a really drum-skin kind of attack. Could you explain a bit, maybe?

Thanks everyone.

Fozzie

The drum skin comes from a ‘3 in series’ Yamaha type patch. The Clavia DX modules are very good but I still tend to use the PM oscillator and conventional envelopes. I never really liked the Yamaha style envelope, the way the rates and levels interact un-intuitively.

Setting the frequencies in the range 0.35 to 0.95 gives a good range of ‘drum skin’ type tones, the oscillator at the top is not strictly required but with the feedback, sharpens up the sound nicely. The pitch bend envelope only responds to the lower notes and is velocity sensitive for variation.
Yamaha FM is a great source of otherwise difficult to get timbres. It’s nice to be able to mix and match techniques in the same patch.
