howto make a noise synth |
|
|
hello !
(first post here)
I imagine that this shoud not be asked very often but I am wondering how to make a simple synth that makes nasty noise ? (à la Tomomin Synthsizer II http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UGskOO9olQM)
coming from the digital side (sound synthesis via programming), I am a bit lost seeing that this synth is just made with 2 c-mos ic 40106...
I am still a beginner in electronics in general, got my hands on the great "Handmade Electronics" by Nicolas Collins but so far, all the small synths examples that I built involving 40106 or 4093 are a lot of fun but nothing really nasty like this one.
If any of you could give me some good directions to experiment on, that would be very cool !
(I also got a Postcard Weevil by Tom Bugs which is really cool also, but I definitely want something harsher).
thanks for your ideas !

[edit] sorry mods but maybe I should have posted this on the DIY forum ? |

josiano!
I mostly want to thank you for posting the video of that awesome noise synth! I wouldn't mind having one of those...
I've messed around with stuff bordering to this on the Nord Modular G2. I usually start with a noise source (white, pink or somewhere in between), and then use that to either trigger envelopes (possibly having a filter with or without resonance between the noise and the trigger input) or counters. Then more filtering. Also harsh FM or delay time modulation can create a varity of noisy sounds.
I don't know how useful that is to you if you want to do something with c-mos. You may be right that this should be moved to somewhere in DIY.
