Welcome to the Atari History Museum.   This site is the culmination of years of research and hard work by enthusiasts with the support of numerous former and current Atari employees and is intended to provide images and information on all areas of Atari.   Our mission is the preservation of all things Atari (Its history, products and knowledge.)

This site provides information, images and personal stories on all items produced by Atari as well as news and links to further assist any and all individuals interested in learning more about the company that helped to pioneer and shape many areas of Video Arcade Entertainment, Home Consumer Electronics, Personal Computer Systems and much, much more...

To me the Atari computer reminds me of the eighties
It was my first computer for music production Very Happy

Steem is a Freeware Atari STE emulator for Windows and Linux. It is being updated regularly and runs the vast majority of ST software without any problems. Steem is designed to be easy to use and has many unique features. Whether you want to run great old games, use MIDI apps just like you did on the ST or you have some other, more sinister motive, Steem is the emulator for you!

I would love to have an Atari Emulator for Mac OSX Shocked Very Happy

See, you are running on OSX, a modern system. It is so advanced that you miss the old days. You long for the charm and character of the primative system you used to have.

I, on the other hand, am running Windows XP. This so called operating system has all the same old quality problems of the old computers we all loved to hate. It still has driver problems, programs that lock up, nasty viruses, and it's just as slow and cumbersome as it's ancient ancestors. Of course, you can run a Windows emulator on Linux or OSX, so you won't have to miss out on all the misery. Smile

That said, the Atari SE had the OS in ROM. That's a good place for it, at least for the kernel.

It's so very true. I guess it has something to do with getting older: I grow fonder of things that reminds me of my youth, like the eighties. Very Happy
P.S.
upgrading the OS on an Atari was a big deal and expensive too!
I do not miss that kind of technology

I bet it was expensive, because you had to buy new ROMs. Maybe that's why this went out of style. Still, maybe today we could use NVRAM or something.

"Do you remember Japan? and David Sylvian?"

I didn't think Sylvian really qualified for nostalgic status. I listen to his collaborative work all the time. Particularly his work with Fripp. And I think he's still releasing things now & then.

Actually Sylvian, Karn, Jansen, Barbieri, Fripp, et al - none of them have ever faded to my back burner. Always thought it was some of the most intriguing, intelligent, evocative music made. And... still is. Although I will admit it seems like they use less lipstick & eye shadow than they used to.

I was 2 to 12 years old in the 80's, I grew up then. I loved it as a child.

I was busy with Transformers and Legos and bb guns and science museums and "Beyond2000" and salt and vinegar chips (that's crisps to our friends in the UK and such) and "Beyond Tomorow" and, of course, "Cosmos."

Silicon potato chips? I could handle that. After all, inn a perfect world, all of my kitchen containers would be brushed stainless stell cylindars with a series of molecular diagrams to indicate the contents of the container. "Silicon" would be a wicked cool flavor.

Modern times.. modern ways... what we need now is a "We love Lucy" extravaganza.

I'm going for a post-trans-pan-modernism myself.

What were we talking about? We're such off-topic bandits we are.

I suppose that is to be expected from a group of artsy coffee house types who live too far away from each other to go coffee housing. Italy, Pennsylvania, Norway, Oklahoma.

Man, I could go for a black cherry cappucino and a pack of Djarum Internationals and a nice dimly lit coffee house with about 7 people there (80 person capacity), all wearing black and barrets and goatees. Mmmm, how I long for those days...
