BUTT, a streaming tool for win, mac and linux |
|
|
EDIT: see http://electro-music.com/wiki/pmwiki.php?n=Radio.BroadcastingInfo for more on how to broadcast on electro-music.com.
MrCold pointed me to a new (FREE ) streaming tool that seems to be capable to replace edcast. It seems suitable for Windows, Linux and Mac. I've tested a bit under Windows Vista, and Cody tried it on Linux - it seems to work.
BUTT
http://butt.sourceforge.net/
then navigate a bit to something like :
http://sourceforge.net/projects/butt/files/butt/butt-0.1.12/
for the windows exe and the mac dmg - the unix source seems to be available directly from the first link. _________________ Jan

Good news!
Do you think it safe enough to use for the Streaming Concert? (assuming the initial connection test is ok)? _________________ Dave

If you now have edcast up and running and tested with that I'd use edcast .. if you don't have anything yet ... it better be good (the butt thing)
I tested it for maybe 15 minutes, that worked ok. _________________ Jan

For people wanting to experiment with sc_trans, there is an sc_trans testport set up. To connect to it use:
port : 9878
password : public:public
To listen if it works you can tune in to port 8054.
The test port can be used at all times, but only one connection at a time of course. _________________ Jan

There seem to be some issues under windows too, with chipmuks on some audio in selections. Didn't have that myself though. _________________ Jan

When I ran it through Wine, I could see the meter bouncing without having put anything through it. Maybe this is the same thing you've heard of. |

Will try the Unix source. There's also IDJC, which I've installed but haven't used yet. |

I've wanted to check out how to setup butt a couple of times. Instinctively I open the "Streaming Radio Station" forum and do a text search for "butt", expecting to find a thread called something with butt. No such luck.
Sure, there are other ways to find this thread, but still - would it be possible to add the magic word "butt" to the subject of this thread, in addition to the rather anonymous and increasingly inaccurate current title? _________________ Antimon's Window

What do you want to do exactly Jez?

I'm not sure exactly what I want to do, but I seem to recall people talking about being able to play files on the server, probably using sc_trans or something, but I don't really know where to look to find info on how this is done _________________ Jez

You'd do that by creating a playlist on the server, and then set sc_trans to play that playlist. I'll see if there is something written about that in the stream-ops forum, if not I'll write up a lil something. _________________ Jan

Before I go testing my port for NYE 2011, BUTT is still the preferred streaming software right now? Been off the air for a while and out of touch and want to make sure. Also, to make changes to the artist info and picture that appears at the top of the main radio page, where do I go to do that? I use to have a link with a PW to do this.
Thanks for being patient with my questions.

OK so one last dumb question, I still have Edcast installed and was streaming just fine the last time I used it, can I use that? It is Shoutcast compatable also.
