Hey,

I'm trying to figure out how to make more technical drum beats... I'm using ultrabeat in Logic, are there any other drum machines that will do what I'm looking for?

Here's a song I want my drums to be similar to. Lots of clicks snaps claps and quick stuff that almost sounds like it might be off the grid...? I'm not sure.. I'd love to figure it out. Thanks for any help!

I like owl city, so does my 8yo daughter.

I wish I could give advice on how to make drum tracks like that but I really don't know.

I find I get these quick things sometimes when I use a drum kit in Live that has a delay (possibly a one.shot delay without feedback) that is set to something like 3/8 or 3/16 or the sequence length, if that makes any sense. You can do this for some (not all) elements of a drum sequence, like set a delay on the hihat to 3/8 of a second if your tempo is 120 BPM and one bar lasts a second.

If you want, skip the delay and just do it in MIDI, displace a copy of the hihat notes three or six steps, and lower the velocity for the copies.

I'm not saying this as an expert or anything, it just sounds a bit like what I've gotten when I've done this. Smile

Also, try keeping the hihats as short as possible, low hold length, quick decay. Highpass away until you think it sounds silly. Or just experiment, hehe.

/Stefan
