Intro & Novation remote zero mkii G2 engine template Subject description: G2 engine control |
|
|
Hello, finally got my hands on a G2 engine today, its been a very long wait but a worthwhile one: cut my teeth on a micromodular before going real modular with a euro and frac setup. So, very happy to be here.
Along with the G2 I also ordered a control surface for it in the form of the novaiton remote zero SL mk2. Does anyone have any G2 related setups or sysex for this machine they would care to share?
So far I thinking a page for each bank with the illuminated dials doing the 8 morphs and the bottom row of buttons triggering each of the variations.
That leaves plenty of buttons, 8 dials and 8 sliders for each bank. If anyone has any ideas on ways to implement these Im all ears, Ill post any templates I make in this thread, if any else has any I could try out the let me know.
Here is the device Im using:

Cheers my man.
Quick novation update:
So far Ive got 4 memory slots on the novation controlling each of the 4 banks, with the illuminated dials controlling the 8 morphs and the bottom row of buttons selecting each variation. Works well.
Not sure what to do about the other buttons, dials and switches: would be nice to configure them to some of the global parameter pages but I havent figured that yet. Might just set them to a bunch of CC's so I can assign them depending on what patch Im making.
Anyway, if anyone needs the template as it is now let me know... |

I don't remember the CC's,but you can set it up four of the sliders to control slot volume. That way you have a global mix of all slots always at the ready. |

^ good idea cheers. Thinking about it I could go for each of the patch variations on the buttons so I can change any variation no matter which bank Im controlling. Plenty of options! |

Hi,
I just got my SL MK II key couple of days ago. And start to make a template for my G2 Engine.
Volume CC is 7 and Variation is 70. Also found the program change in the quick menu.
I assigned the variation to buttons and rotary
But I couldn't found the dump file of the template?
Also it would be cool if you could share your template for modding.
Cheers,
Kaan |

Ill upload my templates later today, they are on a different machine to this one.
Thanks for the volume tip, Ill add that in before uploading...
I didnt know you could program change externally, Ill have to look into that: is it as simple as sending a program change message to the relevant midi channel? |

Right, here is my V4... I store in the novation as G2 A, B and so on, in slots 1-4 on the novation, selecting through banks by hitting the dial and selecting the relevent bank on the dials. You will need to write them there on yours. Probably doesnt make much sense until youve used the templates.
I set up a blank patch in the nord editor, with the morph groups on cc 21-29, bank A is on channel 10, B 11, C12, and D13. Obviously you can edit these as you wish.
Im probably going to use the other row of dials as assignable CCs, also want to look into pattern changes... if anyone knows how thats setup let me know and Ill add it to this.

Yep, I didn't know too G2 Engine could receive the program change info externally, but it works!
Thanks for sharing!
Nice to have 4 templates for every slots!
BTW I dumped my template but couldn't found the syx data in my PC. And couldn't send to Novation the templates?
Could you explain how I can do that, please?
Cheers,
Kaan |

Ive been using this: http://beta.novationmusic.com/releases/sl_mkii/
If you load the template in the editor and hit upload it will send it to the controller.
You figure out how to change the program? standard program change? |

Thanks for the program! I was making the template on the Novation. With the editor it's became much easier.
About the program change, yep just standard program change. Press the quick menu on the Novation and change with second rotary knob.
BTW I just tweaked a bit the templates for my needs (changed the channels to 1,2,3,4; move the volume faders to the last 4 fader; changed the var. buttons display format to On/Off and opened up the key zones).
Edit: I tweaked a bit more (added program change to upper buttons of the variaton buttons as a temporary idea; actived drum pads, touchpad, modwheel, pitchbend; assigned CC's for the first 4 fader and dials) and replaced the files.
Lastly please excuse my Tarzan English
Cheers,
Kaan

Here are the last versions of the templates (Added names to some of rotaries like Cutoff, res, LFO etc. changed some of the CC' to avoid conflict between the default CC's and added octave shift and Patch/Perf to the buttons at the bottom of first fader):
BTW does anyone know the ARP On's CC?

I wish they did one of those SLs without the faders and maybe with another row of encoders.
Is the quality good? |

Thanks tIB.
BobTheDog, I like the faders actually, for the ADSR and volume control especially. And quality is pretty good to me.
BTW these are the last ones I promise

6 out of 10 from me- works well but feels plasticy. I dont mind the faders either, though I would have prefferred more endless rotaries. I think the mk1 had more encoders. |

I beat the ever loving shit out of my remote zero mk1 and it takes it like a champ. I've wrecked two Trigger Fingers in the time I've had this remote. It's definitely made of plastic, but I'd not worry about it breaking unless you pour water in it or something. |
