Hello, I started to study and work with non 12 equal tempered tunings: natural tuning, just intonation, etc. And I need help to understand the technical aspect of this.
For the moment, I think scala is the best tool for doing this. Scala is a software that can create any kind of tuning and scale, with your own intervals and frequencies.
Then, you can load that scala file in your instrument if it supports scala files.
A lot of synths (vsts, or hardware) dont support this. Lucky we are, a couple of programs can load scl files and send that info to these instruments.
I find a soft called tobybear microtuner. Its a kind of "hack": "It adds microtuning capabilities to every VSTi and external synthesizer module, as long as the target synth supports receiving pitchbend on all MIDI channels."
I was testing it and I found some problems. Scala lets you see the base frequency (C4, 261.6 hrz is the standar) and all the notes frequency's.
So I put a soft synth and a tuner (to see the frequency of each note) in one track, and microtuner in other track to send the midi data to the previous track.
The results: C4 was ok but the other notes differ, some are alright or very close, but other are away from the supposed freq.
I tested it in different synths and in some the results were closer to the right numbers.
Could the synths change the freqs? Or it can be a problem of Microtuner?
Im using Ableton Live.
Cheers

I don't have answers to your questions but you could try asking them at the following forums (if you don't get helpful replies here, of course Wink ):
