it should be something like that
it's a 4 pin quartz oscillator, but this is the above mentioned large package. there are smaller ones (still 4 pin but half the length), those are usually easier to get from Farnell etc |

Hi.
I can't open the page (my browser is crap) but +5V 4.000mHz is correct.
The UART has a 3% tolerance for speed, so it should be fine. The one I used is an epson SPXO.
cheers,

Hi guys,
For those of you in the UK with an account with rapid electronics, they have a sale ending midnight friday august 19th.
Have been working on a full build guide and BOM with pretty pictures for too long, so have lost track of time (hey ho..... )
1 x 4538 4538
1 x HC14 HC14
2 x HC4017 HC4017
1 x XTAL osc - either 4mHz 14-pin XTAL osc
or SPXO posh XTAL osc
pin headers and housings here
headers
housings check PCB pic for details....
1 x HC4040 HC4040
1 or x 2 16-way IDC headers (J7 and Doepfer) 16-way IDC
1 or 2 x 16-way IDC housings 16way housing
8 x toggle switches SPST (1) SPST (2) - The SPDT on/on swiches will also work fine, as will dual pole versions of either type.
Rapid don't have the HC237 in stock, and the 0;156 MOTM header and 6N138 opto isolator are back-ordered.
Hope this helps some:)
cheers,

good things come to those who wait.
board has been built and thoroughly tested, the buildong documentation has been written and proofread (will be posted soon).
so there is no reason to wait any longer with shipping the PCBs. expect emails or PMs regarding payment details in the next days. _________________

Awesome job. Quantity for the components on the BOM would be useful, but I will cross reference the schematic. Just makes it easier when I go to the shop to buy it all.
I have two questions:
1. If I make mine 10V, can I just add a resistor with a toggle switch to change it to 5V? The device I want to use it with now should be ok with 10V, but I might make some lunettas or drones in the future that run at 5V. I could even make a small adapter that is plugged inline on the clock output so I can follow your build easier without adding my own stuff, but I am curious if you know whether or not that would work.
2. When/how do I send you the payment and my shipping address? |

Glad you like it guys
Cynosure - you'd have to mess around with DPDT or even maybe 4PDT switches for each output (6 in total) to make it switchable - I haven't tried that.........
An easier route to interface directly with Lunettas, would be to use the signals from J5, and build the circuits around U7 and U8 on perfboard. You wouldn't need the opamp stages in U9 and U10. You'd have to be careful not to damage U5 and U6 though.....
You would then have a +10V M2C module, with a lunetta expander board that can be just plugged in with 2 cables - an 8-way to J5, and a 4-way to PWR out.
Best of both worlds. When not using lunettas, just unplug the expander
cheers,

Just checking through the BOM and I discovered I have a big bag of new 4MHz 8 Pin style oscillators here.
[[Very low cost: though I don't think posting them individually would be economical. There are at least 50. I could send then to Fonik and he could post them out with the boards, if people could wait a few days.]]
Just a thought, otherwise, if anyone has a problem getting them - just memo me.
Update:
I had a word with Matthias, and since he's already started taking payments, it would make things too complicated for him to distribute them now, so if anyone wants any I have done some pricing, (in UK Pounds).
Carriage cost is for up to 10 units, (more in the UK).
Oscillators £0.50 each
Postage, packing and Paypal fees:
UK - £1.50
Europe Airmail - £2.20
USA Airmail - £2.80
Just a pity I didn't find the bag 2 weeks ago! _________________ Mike |

Just got the first batch of oscillator modules ready for posting tonight.
Glad I decided to do 100% test, I had a one that wouldn't settle on frequency. we're talking 100 part per million, but I reckon it was enough to say 'reject'. The rest test clean and all seem to be within 4 PPM, (a few Hz), otherwise. A few had some slight corrosion on the pins, due to being stored in an open box, before I got them, so they have re-tinned legs, (by me); they're not 'pulls'.
About 20 left. _________________ Mike |

My board arrived today. Thank you both very much. Lovely work, and I'm manfully resisting the temptation to start it right away. _________________ Mike |
