BTW.. more on the 016-749 error

ï Cause - A JCL command syntax error occurred.
ï Remedy - Confirm the print settings, or correct the JCL command.

THis error gets reported from the printer it seems..

And thus does not really apply to the solutions I´ve posted here as these apply to the "10.6.8 printers pause issue"

Hmm..

Yes. So this error happens in the RIP I guess.. in the printer that is.

Seems like this might be a PJL error.. possibly.. gotta check your printer model.

trivia:
Printer Job Language (PJL) is a method developed by Hewlett-Packard for switching printer languages at the job level, and for status readback between the printer and the host computer. PJL adds job level controls, such as printer language switching, job separation, environment, status readback, device attendance and file system commands. While PJL was conceived as an extension to Printer Command Language, it is now supported by most PostScript printers. Many printer vendors have extended PJL to include commands proprietary to their products. Not all PJL commands documented by HP are implemented in all HP or other vendor products. PJL resides above all the other printer languages and parses commands first. The syntax mainly uses plain English words.

Does it have a job log?
In the printer?

I´m guesstimating that the error happens in the printer ( actually we know that for sure) because the print job contains "something" that violates "something". Xerox recommends checking print settings. Very helpful advice when we don´t know what to look for.

Btw.. what types of documents are you having problems with? What are you trying to print?

Have you tried the Xerox user forum? What we need to know is which print settings might return this specific error.

I've found this post and another on xerox on the subject 10.6.8 breaks network printing. Should I make a user and post the same thread there?

And yes there is a log but all I found there, and I searched quite a bit, was the syntax error.

Well, possibly a new topic mentioning the actual error code from the printer?

Your case does not quite fit the bill for the 10.6.8 bug mentioned in the tread.

Have you tried deleting the printer and adding it again.. in the printers control panel?

Ive restarted, repaired disc permissions, tried every bloody driver xerox has to offer, deleted everything, searched the webby, I've tried post generic drivers just for fun, and then I got 22 pages worth of gibberish - so something did get through... Juhu...

But the pc's in-house works perfectly fine, of course.

Laughing Shocked Crying or Very sad

I don´t think i can help you much. The error is an internal printer error code.
It is not unlikely that the 10.6.8 update has for some reason affected how certain stuff is being sent to the printer. This is however not a type of bug I´ve seen with 10.6.8.

Thank you so much for your time! It's a support mail to xerox and/or the xerox forums next I guess...

Subject description: Even with 10.8.5 Mountain Lion the bug's still there
Reply with quote  Mark this post and the followings unread

Hi Electro 80

And many thanks for the workaround
We are now in june 2014 and the problem is still there with Mountain Lion 10.8.5…

I applied what you suggest + as an intro

    in terminal type cupsctl Webinterface=Yes
then install the package you provided bypassing Mountain Lion's distrust (ctl click)
repair permissions (and a lot of files in library/printers/… are repaired)

and that's all folks.

Many thanks again
All my best to you in Norway

PS I'm using a Canon MG 5100 series printer
