Just need a quick answer really. This is the only part of the Best of CGS Panel #3 that just isn't quite right. I checked it today and it seems i didn't do the SMT's , is this a biggie ? Embarassed

Hi Andrew , thanks for the reply.

Does that mean i don't need to install them or would it be a good idea or it makes no difference ? I'm unsure on what decoupling means yet.

The wiring might be my problem , better check again.

"good design" usually implies a decoupling cap for every IC, placed as close as practical to the power pin.

If you leave them off, the main problem is issues with noise and other demons getting onto the power rails and then into other modules. The circuit will still work, but best to install as many as you can.
I often miss out some of the surface-mount ones on Ken's boards, guess it depends on how perfect you want your synth to be Smile

as sayeth andrew, they're genearlly good practice, in terms of keeping your power clean. the VCOs would probably be most susceptible. they don't have to be SMT caps, either, i've used small ceramics on several builds & they worked fine, just tack 'em in place.
