Subject description: Gate and trigger not working
Reply with quote  Mark this post and the followings unread

While I have been using my 10 step sequencer successfully for the past month. I have recently discovered that my gate and trigger are not working. I have checked all diode orientation, replaced all ICs, and triple checked the wiring. When I hook my volt meter to the gate and trigger output i read near zero volts. Any ideas?

thank you,

Andrew

If the LEDs are lighting up that means the 4017 is working fine, and the 2N3904s are doing their job. You could check the output of U2-A, if you see a high signal here when you could then check the output of U4-C (you should just see the clock signal here), and then the output of U2-B. The signal will probably go dead at one of those points, if it does then you will have an idea of where to look.

Since these are on or off signals, a voltmeter will work ok to troubleshoot, i would run the clock slow enough that you have time to watch your meter change as you probe the various points, but if you have a scope, use that.

Good luck, let us know if you need more assistance,

jordan

Bingo! Thank you for the info Jordan! Pin 6 of the 40106 was outputing zero volts. Replaced it with a non TI chip and its working perfectly. Seems that every project i build with a 40106 is very picky with which maker i use.

Thanks again!

Andrew
