Been having double finding 2M pot. Is there a modification I can make to make use of smaller values, like 1M, 500K and even 100K?

Can you buy from Mouser? I use Alpha dual 1M potentiometers and wire the two tracks together to get 2M total. I think the Mouser part number is 317-2201F-1M (linear) or 317-2101F-1M (log)...

Hi Erez,

It looks like you should just be able to change the 100n and 330n capacitors. If you cut the resistor in half to 1M, just double the cap values and I think you should be ok. You may have to fiddle around with the other resistor values as well, but it shouldn't be too bad to find something that will work...

When it doubt, breadboard it Cool

Thanks for the hints guys, they are really helpful.

I'll give it a shot this weekend.

It does help to have pots around of greater than 1M values, especially as rate controls in sequencers, S&H, CMOS clocks, etc. The unfortunate thing is that there is little demand for these values, which makes them scarce. But the cool thing about this lack of demand is that when the do appear, they can usually be had for cheap. When I happen to see some I buy them ahead of time, because they are difficult to source at short notice.

A few years ago I bought 1M and 5M sealed Bourns 1/4" pots from Goldmine for $1 each. Very high quality and wonderful feel. I bought 2M Clarostat sealed 1/8" pots from All Electronics for a similarly cheap price. Lots of weird-value pots crop up on ebay also. Don't get crusty old wirewound pots though, those aren't worth the trouble. For clock circuits I find it is better to round up in value for more range.
