Ok, iExplorer is a really cool, useful free app for seeing what files are in one's iPhone.

Still, having to hack through one's old iPhone to recover synth patches for use on a new iPad or iPhone, because they don't get sync'd (why not, Apple????), is a serious flaw. The user is left to guess which files need to be copied. One could copy a project file for example, but how does one know for sure where all the files associated with that project file are?

This doesn't invalidate the idea of adding an iDevice to one's music gear rig, but the possibility that you'll have to muck about like that whenever you get a new iDevice is something that should be considered.

Why not indeed... I think that this qestion in general warrants its own thread...

After looking at the IOdock for the iPad I'm pretty impressed. Google really dropped the ball on multimedia for Android, which by rights ought to be finding its way into lots of electronic studios because it is more open than Apple's product. I prefer not to buy Apple products for that reason but with so many apps and an average price of $30 per synth I have to take Tom's suggestion seriously.

As for hardware, right now I'm thinking about the Octatrack and the Blofeld with the sampling option. I think the RS7000, Micro Q, and E-synth ultra will be hitting the for-sale section pretty soon...maybe my Eee pad too.
