FltClassic Module used for a Distorted Delay Loop FX |
 |
|
The FltClassic low pass filter module has a nice overdrive distortion along with adjustable high frequency cutoff filtering which can be used in a delay feedback loop for a distorted delay FX.
Note that with higher input levels, the FltClassic module generates a gentle overdrive distortion sound including a third harmonic. This module seems to have much less digital aliasing noise compared to the other G2 waveshaper modules used for distortion. When the delay feedback control (FB knob) is set to unity gain or greater, the regeneration looping sound begins to get very distorted and dirty, similar to the sound of analog bucket brigade type delays.
The FltClassic module gives the flattest and widest bandwidth frequency response with the cutoff frequency set at maximum value, the slope set to -12dB per octave, and the resonance set to a value of 5.5. The FltClassic module will pass “DC” signals, so a separate high pass filter is necessary (and desirable anyway) in the feedback loop to roll off the lowest frequencies. Adjusting the FB level, LPF cutoff, resonance, and the HPF cutoff will produce many delay loop flavors.
A working example of this type of delay is in the FX area (delay input signal from the output of the Phaser module and the delay output going into the StChorus module) of the “mm 3 Osc VM” patch posted here:

This delay patch has an input signal fader/on-off switch. The G2 delay modules that have dry/wet mixers/bypass switches only have them on the output. This is not ideal when switching variations, where you desire the natural delay decay in the sound of a previous variation after switching to another variation with no delay selected for the new voice. When using a delay in this fashion, it is best to leave the delay output settings the same on the variations and just use the delay input fader/on-off switch control to select which variation will have the delay FX enabled.
The adjustable delay parameters are assigned to the front panel knobs on Parameter Page E-2. _________________ varice |
