Hi forum,

just fould this advertisement about a new controller which lets you play midi drums from any surface where you stick the transducer to.
I think this is really interesting.

http://pulsecontroller.com/welcome.html

I would instantly buy this but since it doesn't support windows and they won't ship to europe, i was thinking of a pure software solution to replace this. Simply place a cheap contact mic on the table or whatever and plug it into the audio input of your computer. Then you would need a software which you could calibrate to the microphone and which converts the trigger to a midi note on with the velocity of the amplitude with a decent speed. Now just connect with your favourite drummachine or sampler and there you go...
Is there perhaps a software solution which lets you do this already?
Thanks,
Nils

I love google!

It seems, the program "eTrigger" does exactly what i was looking for. Sadly i couldn't configure any audio input device since no device showed up.
Any ideas?

if you are using windows than you should try PureData or MaxMsp.
PureData is free...MaxMsp is not.

i more prefer PD because i use linux and under linux there is no Max:)
quite same logic. there are tons of objects like audio input ///adc~
and midiout or noteout...
you have to create connections/nodes between the objects...

Great info, thanks.
I actually thought about MaxMSP before but thought there might be something more "simple". I will definitely have a look into the other program.
Cheers,
Nils

PS: Do you think the project is doable latency-wise for real-time triggering?

I have actually found some patches for Pure Data which allow me to do the same as the Pulse Surface Controller. It will just be a matter of tweaking them to my needs. I will have to check if latency is all right. Anyone interested?

Hey the Theremin to midi thing was very cool!
This is a good start for a drum trigger thing:

buy some cheap piezzo:

http://home.earthlink.net/~erinys/contactmic.html

or you can try some old headphones...like mobile headset.
its easy to amplify the signal in PD.

Some great information on drum triggers is available on the Paia website.
http://www.paia.com/ProdArticles/drumsens.htm
Even includes a nice schematic to use with the DIY drum pads.
