I don't know why or how, but a little birdie whispered in my mind to type "japanese rock" into www.8tracks.com this morning. I never heard such intensity in my life. I played kid rock and japanese rock at the same time and i coud not hardly hear the kid rock at all. They could probably drown out Judas Priest.

I figure they are loading up the whole spectrum at max volume but not consistently - it varies over time from severely intense to lullaby-ish but mostly on the intense side. That does something to the dynamic range of the ears to constantly fill your mind with amazing loudness!

Plus the lyrics are so musical themselves in Japanese, it's a whole different experience. So if you are serious about your rock and roll and want to hear intensity beyond belief, go getcha some of that japanese rock - wOw!

Les

Japanese "rock" is certainly a diverse thing. What style of stuff were you listening to?

A few of my favorite Japanese bands, worth checking out:
Kenso
Ruins
Koenji-Hyakkei
Bondage Fruit
Tipographica
Sigh

I just saw Electric Eel Shock. I wasn't sure I was going to like them, as I was actually there to see one of the bands opening for them (Hot Cha Cha - not Japanese, they're from Cleveland, OH) but then they put on an amazing show.

They play late 70s/early 80s style metal with an ironic twist - my friend swore she saw them laughing between songs. Fantastic live show either way.
