Making electronic music: how hard? Help! |
|
|
Hello,
I love electronic music, and generally am a details person. Growing up I took piano lessons for 4-5 years, and was also in band in high school. I do computer programming as a job.
I don't have any exposure to any of the hardware for making electronic music, for instance a 303, or drum machine (and only have a very basic understanding of it all). I downloaded the trial version of Reason a year ago, and felt way over my head. I own a regular piano, but not an electronic one. I have a decent computer, running Windows 7.
This weekend I downloaded the trial of MixCraft 5, and it was fun to play with, but I feel like without some sort of musical input (midi keyboard or something), I would only get frustrated with it over time.
I guess I'm looking for advice - I can see that I could really have fun doing something like this, but every time I try it out I feel completely lost, and am trying not to spend a fortune before figuring out if I like it. Is this something I should try out?
Where should I start? Is there free software that I should be playing with? How do you get more familiar with the hardware without buying it?
Thanks in advance. |

Depends on what you want
Could be as simple as using a tape recorder (read: the audacity program), record sounds and compose with that ... there are a lot of free tools around for all sorts of things ... _________________ Jan
also .. could someone please turn down the thermostat a bit.

Hi,
Have a play around with this:

My 11 year old loves mucking around with it. I may have to buy the hardware version for him soon. You could probably find other free virtual stuff to experiment with. |
