One would first have to disconnect that 555 timer and make sure the substitute metronome is the correct voltage.

I'm guessing that the metronome "signal" is not a simple 5V trigger such as I'm expecting that 555 to put out.
And that's about all anyone can say without checking out your (midi driven?) metronome signal.
