Only the new retina version. The others are about the same.

I'd rather get the new iPad for the Retina display, than a whole new Macbook Pro.

I 'm waiting until some version of Mac OS is introduced that will no longer run on my current Macbook Pro (2007 vintage). I'm sure by that time, Retina will be standard on all Macbooks. I do hope I'll still be able to use the Nord Modular G2 Editor.

Heck, I just upgraded to Snow Leopard. Very Happy The only reason I did that was so I could get the "store" app, which is needed to upgrade to Lion. And the only reason I'm upgrading to Lion is so I can run that "find my iPhone" app if I'm ever dumb enough to lose my iPhone again.

As fun as the iPad is, it's still no match for a decent desktop/laptop computer.

For overall power, sure.

But my aging Macbook Pro is fine for my needs. I just use it to surf the Web and as a multi-track recorder (Live or Logic - mostly Live these days). I barely use the softsynths. The only DAW plugins I use are the limiter and reverb (the basic reverb, not Space Designer or anything so fancy). If I buy a new Macbook Pro now, I'm essentially throwing money away for a prettier machine that I'd be using for exactly the same purpose I use my current one.

If I was some power user who regularly records 60 track projects into Logic, or plays Ableton Live Sets with 40 tracks, 70 plugins, etc. then I'd probably be in a hurry to get this new model. However, I've gotten more into using my hardware synths and gear than the softies. I might even get an OP-1 over an iPad if Teenage Engineering drops the price like Elektron did on the Octatrack (due to weakness of Swedish krona vs. US dollar)

I'll get a a new Macbook when Apple forces everyone to upgrade to Mac OS Ocelot or whatever cat it ends up being - the one OS that won't work on my current Macbook Pro.

For music only? Fine. But I don't really do much music on my computer. I've got my iPad/iPhone and hardware for that. I use 3D software such as AutoCAD and Shark FX and my Mac Mini (late 2009) just isn't up to the graphical demands of that software. Even Mac only software such as Cheetah 3D runs quite slow on my Mac while rendering models. Having an i7 quad core would really speed those things up. Smile
