Hi gang,

Well here we go again with another project. This really is the best LFO I've done to date, from a musical point of view. There are lots of features and its behavior is very smooth on all fronts, if that makes sense.

Also included is a complete article I wrote up for it. I had originally intended this to go to a magazine, but somehow things got in the way.

As usual, I would appreciate it if you keep this stuff for your own personal use and not pass it around or try to go commercial with it. Always link back to the source in EM. Get in touch if you feel the need to do a PCB or something.

Dig in!

Thomas Henry

Excellent, I like this one a lot. Thank you very much for sharing it with us!

I was listening to a bunch of string music on my drive today (Zoe Keating and Paul Giger, both highly recommended) and thinking about how you could patch things to be able to simulate some of the delayed vibratos etc, and had been thinking in terms of "another VCA" to fade in the LFO. With this it's right there in the mix. Very Happy

as you can see, the PCB has been designed a couple of months ago when i had the privilege to do a testbuild of thomas' new LFO.

thomas gave me a go now, and so i will offer PCBs for this project soon. i will start a new thread, though.

Thanks very much, I will have time to study this without being disturbed soon by the hotel pool near Alicante in Spain - my wife will be far too busy sunbathing!

just wanted to give you an update:
the timeframe is not set, yet. i could offer the PCB as i originally designed it right now, however, quite a few people wanted an additional PCB for front panel components in eurorack format.
in order to achieve this, i have to re-design and modify the layout and design th eadditional front panel components PCB.
i will have to order another set of these new layouts for testing purposes befor i can offer the final product.
i will NOT offer front panels.

@delayed: i found these parts in my drawer, i have no idea where i got them - maybe from www.reichelt.de, where i order a lot of parts, however, they have a MOQ of 150.-EUR for foreign orders and their page is in german only...

so here are the new PCBs:
Circuit PCB providing footprints for MTA100 headers. This enables almost any format.
Eurorack front panel components PCB, which can be mounted back to back with the circuit PCB using single row connectors, enabling building without wiring.

will start populating the test build today.

i assembled the boards, alas, the whole trigger/delay/lag part is not working yet. will hae to troubleshoot it.
cannot be a big deal, since the actual circuit board is tested already (made only a few adjustments to make the PCB smaller).
we will see later this week... so stay tuned.

i don't offer PCBs yet, however, your order has been taken. i will evaluate the estimated prices on monday.

anyways, here is the finished module in the layout i chose for my next cabinet. alas, i totally messed up the modes labeling: 'Gate' should read 'Delay', and 'Trigger' should read 'Gate' - obviously i was thinking ADSR when doing the front panel!?

here is a very short demo of the Controller LFO. NOTE that i mixed up the labels of the mode switch: Trigger should read Gate, and gate should read Trigger.

So, one thing that's not immediately clear to me is using this as a free-running LFO. Are the jacks on the right needed for this, or can you just put it in trigger mode and it runs free until a trigger restarts the attack stage of the VCA? As I'm typing it, that makes the most sense to me...

no. without anything put into the trigger or gate input, no matter what position the mode switch is, the LFO is free running, even the controll output.
the additional outputs are alwayt running, exept in gated mode. and they offer two more functions: triggger out, and gate out (positive only).
