Maschine + G2 Engine. Can it work like a G2 keyboard ? |
|
|
I have been happily mapping Maschine controllers to G2 patches. Just me, but the controller is more useful for realtime control of synths than drum beats. Anyways...
Can I configure Maschine to emulate the midi messages which a G2 keyboard model makes? I've got 8 knobs and 8 buttons plus quite a few more buttons. Is there documentation so I can make Maschine's controller editor act like the G2 keyboard controls?
Regards,

Hey B.
I don't have a machine, but I've been trying to do the same thing with my engine and several other midi-controllers.
One solution is the thing you probably already know a tried:
In the G2 editor there's a window called the parameter pages wich is basically a representation of the G2 Keys controller layout.
What is available in the G2 editor, is to automatically assign midi-cc's to all the knobs on the parameter pages in the parameter overview window.
When your midi-controller allows you to select different scenes for your eight knobs and buttons, you map these to the CC's the editor assigned to the parameter pages.
Problem with this, is that you basically have to prepare your patches in advance to map the cc's and it's a lot of work. On the plus side, when you've prepared your patches this way, you don't need the editor anymore to control the G2 with your machine.
For another solution, I am going to build in the open sources editor I'm developing the possibility to assign midi to the parameter pages window of the editor. You can see what I mean on this post here:
http://electro-music.com/forum/topic-48872-300.html
Then you only have to assign the controller cc's ones to the editor parameter pages window, and it will work for all patches you load. The down side is that it only works if the open source editor is running, because basically your midi-controller is controlling the editor and the editor translates your controller cc's to parameter changes for the G2. So it's only for studio use I guess.
(I'm still testing this version, I'm hoping to release it this weekend or the next.) _________________ My old OS NMG2 editor: http://sourceforge.net/projects/nmg2editor/?source=directory

Thanks Brunov,
Mapping midi CC's is working fine for me. Good luck with the open source editor, we need to keep the G2 alive!
